Men’s Soccer Rallies Past Pace, 2-1, Behind Prouty Brace

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Chance Prouty scored twice in the final 11 minutes, including the game-winning goal in the 89th minute, to lift the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team to a 2-1 comeback victory over Pace University on Sunday at Melucci Field.
 
Highlights
  • Prouty recorded his first multi-goal game of the season, scoring both Saint Anselm goals. He finished with a game-high seven shots, including three on goal.
  • Sophomore Ryan Jacob and junior Brian Jones each picked up an assist on Prouty's game-tying goal in the 80th minute.
  • Graduate goalkeeper David Hood made five saves while allowing just one goal in the victory.
  • Saint Anselm outshot Pace 22-13 overall and held a 12-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Hawks also generated eight corner kicks compared to six for the Setters.
  • The Hawks produced 15 of their 22 shots in the second half while holding Pace to six attempts after halftime.
How it Happened
Pace opened the scoring in the 15th minute to take a 1-0 advantage. The Hawks responded with several opportunities before halftime, including shots on goal from four different Hawks, but Pace goalkeeper Joe Zweben kept Saint Anselm off the board through the opening 45 minutes.

Saint Anselm increased the pressure in the second half, recording three consecutive corner kicks between the 59th and 61st minutes before Yves Maurer put another attempt on goal in the 67th minute.

The Hawks finally broke through in the 79th minute, as Jacob and Jones combined to set up Prouty, who found the back of the net to even the match at 1-1.

With less than two minutes remaining, Prouty struck again. His initial shot was stopped by Zweben before Prouty scored to give Saint Anselm its first lead of the afternoon, 2-1.

Pace managed one final shot in the closing seconds, but the attempt went wide as the Hawks secured the comeback victory.
