NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Senior
Rose Reitmeyer of the Saint Anselm College softball team was named Northeast 10 Conference Player of the Year, as voted on by the head coaches, while three other Hawks joined her on the All-Conference teams, the league announced on Wednesday.
Reitmeyer headlines the NE10 yearly awards after a record-breaking season, becoming the first Hawk to earn the league's top recognition since
Bre Klaiber '22 won the award in 2021. Reitmeyer also made the NE10's All-Conference First Team, while juniors
Brooke Tardugno and
Caitlyn Duquette, and sophomore
Alexa Salafia were named to the All-Conference Third Team.
Reitmeyer put together one of the most dominant offensive seasons in program history, batting .365 with 62 hits, 48 runs scored, and a program-record 16 home runs. Her 16 home runs ranked first in the NE10, while she also finished second in runs batted in (54), first in slugging percentage (.782), and first in OPS (on-base plus slugging) (1.221).
Reitmeyer also surpassed the Hawks' all-time home run record of 24 set by
Nicole Boucher from 2011-14, and her six RBI performance against American Int'l on Sunday, May 2, is tied for the third-most in a single game in program history. Reitmeyer finished out her career on the Hilltop with 27 career home runs, while her 16 home runs are also tied for the fifth-most home runs in a single season in NE10 history.
Tardugno earned Third Team honors as an at-large selection following a strong all-around campaign. The junior hit .311 with 52 hits and a team-high 50 runs scored, finishing among the NE10 leaders in runs scored and stolen bases, going 36-for-40 on the year. Her 36 stolen bases set a new single-season program record, passing
Shannon Colson '21, who had 32 for the Hawks in 2018. She also ranked near the top of the conference in doubles (18), while contributing defensively with 153 assists, starting at third base in 52 of the Hawks' 53 games this season.
Duquette was named the Third Team first baseman after anchoring the middle of the lineup with a .360 batting average. The junior's average ranked among the top hitters in the NE10, while her 59 hits and .417 on-base percentage also placed her among the league leaders. Defensively, she recorded 375 putouts with a team-high .977 fielding percentage at first base.
Salafia rounded out the Hawks' honorees as the Third Team designated player. The sophomore totaled 30 hits, including eight doubles and two home runs, while driving in 16 runs. She also contributed in the circle for Saint Anselm, making 21 appearances, giving the Hawks valuable versatility throughout the season.
The Hawks had their season come to an end in the first round of the Northeast 10 Conference Championship, 3-2 in seven innings, to No. 3-seeded Southern New Hampshire University. Saint Anselm finished its season with a 24-29 record, making the postseason as the league's sixth seed.
