Baseball Upended by SNHU

HOOKSETT, N.H.  The Saint Anselm College baseball team dropped a 15-7 decision to Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast 10 Conference play on Thursday evening at Penmen Field.

Highlights

  • Sophomore George Slauson went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer as part of a two-run outing.
  • Sophomore Gavin Rigney went 1-for-3, launching a homer as he scored twice.
  • Sophomore Coleson Kaluza drew four walks and came in to score on two occasions.
  • Sophomore Peter Fischer walked three times.

How it Happened

Southern New Hampshire scored the game's first seven runs over the first two innings before Saint Anselm would tie the game at 7-7, scoring seven of its own over the third and fourth innings.

Sophomore Jackson Powers led things off with a sacrifice fly before Slauson hit a three-run shot to left center to make it 7-4 in the third. In the fourth, Rigney sent out a solo blast to left before a passed ball scored Kaluza. Down 7-6, junior Nathaniel Leighton walked with the bases loaded to tie the game.

The Penmen would score the game's final eight runs over the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to pull away for the victory.

Up Next

The Hawks (8-4, 3-2 NE10) will take on another intra-state NE10 foe, Franklin Pierce University (4-8, 1-5 NE10), on Saturday, April 11. Opening draw from Sodexo Field is slated for 1 p.m.
