WORCESTER, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College baseball team started off its weekend series against Assumption University at H.L. Rocheleau '24 Field with a sweep on Saturday, improving their conference record to 11-8.
Game 1 – Saint Anselm 7 (11-14, 10-8 NE10), Assumption 3 (8-20, 4-14 NE10)

How it Happened
Sophomore George Slauson led off the first with a double to center field, driving in two runs to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead. Fischer extended the lead to three runs in the first with an RBI-single to right field, sending Slauson home.
Smith tossed a 1-2-3 bottom of the first with two strikeouts to keep it 3-0. The lefty struck out two Greyhounds in the third inning as he put together another 1-2-3 frame.
Assumption made an attempt to close the gap in the fourth as a sacrifice fly to left field brought home a run, making the score 3-1.
The Hawks answered in the fifth as Kaluza launched a solo home run over the fence in right before an RBI single from junior Brendan Gonzalez made it 5-1 in favor of the visitors. Smith came out for the bottom of the fifth and delivered his third 1-2-3 frame of the contest, putting all three Greyhounds down with fly outs. In the bottom of the sixth, Smith sat the Assumption batters down in order yet again, notching two additional strikeouts.
Gonzalez knocked in a run as he reached on a fielder's choice to score junior Mavrick Bourdeau, extending the Hawks' lead to five runs.
The Hawks scored their seventh and final run in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly from Slauson that brought Rigney across the plate.
Smith came out for the bottom of the eighth and tossed his fifth 1-2-3 frame of the game. Attempting a complete game, Smith came out for the ninth and gave up a leadoff double. Schoenberg came in to close it out and allowed two unearned runs as he recorded one strikeout to give the Hawks a 7-3 victory.
Game 2 – Saint Anselm 19 (12-14, 11-8 NE10), Assumption 6 (8-21, 4-15 NE10)

Junior Andrew Chenevert improved to 6-0 on the season, tossing four innings allowing eight hits and one walk, allowing six earned runs, while notching six punch outs.
How it Happened
Powers started off game two with a solo homer to right field. The Greyhounds responded with a three-run bottom half to take a two-run lead after one.
Two home solo jacks from Fischer and McCarron tied the score at 3-3 in the second inning.
Kaluza hit his second home run of the day, a two-run blast, followed by an RBI-single to right field from Slauson to put the Hawks up 6-3 in the top of the fourth. The Greyhounds tied it up at 6-6 with a three-run homer off the bat of Michael Caron.
The Hawks continued to advance their lead in the fifth inning, first with a bases-loaded walk drawn by Bourdeau, sending McCarron across the plate, followed by Powers reaching on an error, scoring Rigney. Slauson then sent a two-run homer over the fence in right field to put the Hawks up 10-6.
In the sixth inning, Powers started off a six-run frame with a two-RBI double to right field followed by another double from Slauson, again with two runs batted in. Gonzalez and freshman Jake Smith both notched RBI singles, extending Saint Anselm's lead to ten runs.
In the last inning of the day, Bourdeau tripled to center field to score Kaluza before Powers grounded out to bring in a run, making it 18-6. Slauson launched the Hawks' fourth home run of game two to make it 19-6.
The Greyhounds could only muster one baserunner in the bottom half as MacDonald rounded out the win on the bump.
