No. 2 Men’s Lacrosse Runs Past AIC, 21-4

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The No. 2 nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team stormed past Northeast 10 Conference opponent American International College by a final score of 21-4 on Wednesday night at Ronald J. Abdow Field.

Highlights

  • Sophomore Ben Turpin paced the Hawks' offense with eight points coming off five goals and three assists. He also secured two ground balls.
  • Senior Quinn Gannon went 11-for-13 (84.6%) on faceoffs while securing a team-high 10 ground balls. Also taking draws were junior Evan Spillane (5-for-7), sophomore Logan Purvis (2-for-4), and freshman TJ Paolucci (5-for-5).
  • Junior Mark Boyle and sophomore Matt Lemay each recorded four points, with Boyle securing a hat trick and Lemay registering two goals.
  • Senior Aidan Webb, sophomore Eddie O'Brien, and freshman Nate Mulvey each compiled three points.
  • Senior Charlie Dean posted a multi-point game with one goal and one assist.
  • Seniors Jared Leonard and Nicholas Palermo, junior Ryan Weller, sophomore Thomas Cronan, and freshman Myles Chapman each had one goal while junior Nathan Alberti and senior Chris Claflin contributed one assist apiece.
  • Sophomore Max Fowler and freshman Jake O'Brien turned in two caused turnovers with one ground ball each. Four other Hawks contributed one caused turnover.
  • In his first collegiate start in goal, freshman Cam Sinclair made nine saves over 45 minutes before senior Naish Kelly closed out the final 15 minutes with two stops.
  • The Hawks are now 28-3 in the all-time series against the Yellow Jackets, which dates back to Saint Anselm's inaugural campaign in 1994. Saint Anselm has been victorious in each of the last 27 meetings with AIC.

How it Happened

Saint Anselm scored the game's first 17 goals over the opening 39:26 of action. AIC found the back of the net three straight times to make it 17-3 with 13:44 to play.

Saint Anselm scored the next three goals to pull ahead by 17 before the two squads traded tallies in the final 2:09 of regulation.

Saint Anselm (9-1, 5-1 NE10) turns its attention to cross-town rival Southern New Hampshire University (5-5, 0-5 NE10). The Hawks and Penmen will meet at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium in Hooksett on Wednesday, April 15 for a 7 p.m. Queen City showdown.
