CARY, N.C. – The Saint Anselm College baseball team dropped its final game of its trip to the Tar Heel State in a rematch against Wayne State College on Sunday morning at the USA Baseball National Training Complex, falling to the Wildcats by a final score of 3-2.

Highlights

  • Junior Mavrick Bourdeau drove in a run while going 1-for-3 in the outing.
  • Sophomore Luke Douglas went 2-for-4 at the plate.
  • Senior Ben Rose went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base to his credit.
  • Senior right-hander Nolan Mederos had an impressive performance in his second start of the campaign, allowing only two hits, one walk, while striking out four Wildcats over 7.1 innings of scoreless work.
  • Freshman Finn Ramseyer closed the game out with two strikeouts over three batters faced in the eighth.
  • Saint Anselm put together six hits and one walk, allowing just four hits and one walk for WSC.

How it Happened

The Hawks scored the first run of the game as Bourdeau laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Rose on a squeeze play after a steal and error landed him on third.

Still leading 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth, sophomore Jackson Powers scored the Hawks' second run of the game on an error following a base hit from junior Brendan Gonzalez.

In the top of the ninth, Wayne State put together a three-run inning, scoring one run on an error before a first-pitch single to left knocked in two additional runs one batter later.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth, Douglas was the lone Saint Anselm batter to reach safely with a single to left before a strikeout sealed the one-run victory for the Widcats.
