WINTHROP, Mass. – Senior captain Brooklyn Schneiderhan headlined Thursday's announcement of the New England Women's Hockey Alliance All-Conference Teams, earning NEWHA Player of the Year honors.
Schneiderhan became the fourth student-athlete in program history to earn NEWHA Player of the Year honors and the third Hawks player to receive the award in the past four seasons. First-year goaltender Kayla Czukoski earned NEWHA All-Rookie recognition, while Sydney Merritt was selected to the All-Sportswomanship Team.
With two goals in Wednesday's NEWHA Semifinal at Assumption University, Schneiderhan remains the league leader with 25 goals and 48 points, to go along with 23 assists. She also leads the NEWHA in shots (223), shots per game (6.02), shorthanded goals (five), and multi-point games (13). Her nine career shorthanded goals are the most among active NCAA skaters at any level.
Schneiderhan's 25 goals and 48 points rank as the second-highest single-season totals by a NEWHA student-athlete, trailing only Sacred Heart's Taylor Moreland, who recorded 30 goals and 66 points during the league's inaugural season in 2017-18.
Schneiderhan reached the 100-point milestone in early December against Franklin Pierce University and has since totaled 124 career points (68 goals, 56 assists) in 134 games. With her two goals against the Greyhounds, she moved into a tie for third in program history in both points and goals, matching Kathleen Twomey '09 in points and Courtney Winters '14 in goals.
She is also the only active NEWHA skater with multiple career hat tricks. In Saint Anselm's National Collegiate era (beginning in 2017-18), Schneiderhan ranks first among Hawks skaters with 124 career points and has continued to build on her program record in goals (68) after passing Kelly Golini '22 M'23 in the opening round of the NEWHA postseason.
In her first 33 games in a Saint Anselm uniform, Czukoski leads the NEWHA with 1,229 saves and entered the week ranked 13th nationally with a .935 save percentage. Her 66-save performance against Boston College on Oct. 4 was tied for the second-highest single-game total by a NEWHA goaltender over the last three seasons.
Through the NEWHA postseason to date, Czukoski has allowed just four goals in 179:56, posting a .962 save percentage and a 1.33 goals-against average. In the semifinal at Assumption, she made 44 saves, marking the 15th time this season she recorded at least 40 saves.
Czukoski was named the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) National Co-Goalie of the Month for November just days after earning NEWHA Goaltender of the Month honors. She posted a 5-1-0 overall record during the month, including a perfect 5-0-0 mark in NEWHA play.
For November, the first-year netminder recorded a .962 save percentage and a 1.82 goals-against average, stopping 275 of 286 shots faced. Her standout performances included a 50-save effort in a 2-0 non-conference loss to No. 12/13 Yale and a 55-save performance in a 4-2 win at Post.
Merritt appeared in 19 games for Saint Anselm as a senior and reached 100 career games played at LIU on Feb. 7. She skated in a career-high 37 games last season. A multiple-time NEWHA All-Academic Team selection, Merritt has also earned Saint Anselm Dean's List honors in every semester.
Saint Anselm will travel to face top-seeded Franklin Pierce in the NEWHA Championship game on Saturday, March 7, at 7 p.m. The winner will earn the league's automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey Championship.
