Turpin’s Career Day Powers No. 2 Men’s Lacrosse Past No. 18 Assumption, 15-12

WORCESTER, Mass. – Fueled by an eight-goal performance from sophomore Ben Turpin, the No. 2 nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team took down No. 18 Assumption University in a Northeast 10 Conference battle at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Highlights

  • Turpin notched a new career high with eight goals. He added one assist to finish with nine points. He has now scored four or more goals four times through seven contests.
  • Sophomore Matt Lemay posted five points on four goals and one assist while scooping three ground balls and causing one turnover.
  • Sophomore Eddie O'Brien scored twice on two shots and earned three ground balls.
  • Juniors Mark Boyle and Nathan Alberti each registered two assists.
  • Sophomore Johnny Lucas had three ground balls and one assist.
  • Senior Charlie Dean had one goal with one ground ball pickup while freshman Nick Burns had one assist.
  • Freshman Dylan Bankowski recorded a team-high two caused turnovers while picking up two ground balls.
  • Senior Quinn Gannon went 25-for-29 (86.2%) on faceoffs, a career high on faceoff wins, to secure a career-high 18 ground balls.
  • Junior goalie Finn Granara made nine saves in net in the victory.
  • Saint Anselm put 30 shots on goal while limiting the Greyhounds to 21.
  • The Hawks went 19-for-23 (56.5%) on clearing attempts.
  • Saint Anselm won the ground ball battle decisively, 44-17, while winning 26-of-31 (83.9%) of all faceoffs.
  • The Hawks are now 26-7 in the all-time series against the Greyhounds, with the first meeting coming back in the 1994 season. Saint Anselm has won the last 11 meetings with five of those victories coming at Kelly Stadium.
  • Saint Anselm is off to a 7-0 start for the third time in program history, having done so previously in 2025 and 2021.

How it Happened

After Assumption jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, the Hawks responded with six consecutive goals over a span of 5:49 span to make it 7-3. The Greyhounds responded with two goals in the final minute of the frame to cut the score to 7-5 after one quarter.

The Greyhounds tied the score at 8-8 just 4:01 into the second quarter before Saint Anselm closed the half with goals from O'Brien and Turpin to give the visitors a two-goal lead at the break. Turpin recorded five of the Hawks' goals in the opening half, including four in the first quarter.

Saint Anselm scored three straight goals out of halftime as part of a five-goal effort in the period, taking a 15-10 lead into the final 15 minutes of regulation.

Assumption scored the two goals of the fourth quarter, but Granara came up clutch with two saves to keep the Hawks in front until the final buzzer.

The Hawks (7-0, 3-0 NE10) will take on nationally-ranked Saint Michael's College (6-2, 1-2 NE10) on Wednesday, April 1 at Grappone Stadium with the opening faceoff set for 4 p.m.
