MANCHESTER, N.H. – The No. 2 Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team defeated No. 20 Saint Michael's College, 13-11, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Grappone Stadium on Wednesday, improving to 8-0 on the season while maintaining possession of the Saint Stick for the second consecutive year.
Highlights
- Junior Mark Boyle and sophomore Ben Turpin both had four points with three goals and an assist to lead the team. Boyle tallied his second hat trick of the season while Turpin recorded his seventh multi-point game of the year and his fifth hat trick.
- Sophomore Matt Lemay posted three points for the Hawks with two goals and an assist, also notching three ground balls.
- Freshman Nick Burns scored a career-high two goals while sophomores Eddie O'Brien and Max Fowler, and senior Chris Claflin each had one goal. O'Brien also had an assist.
- Senior Tyler Vigeant had a team-high four caused turnovers, followed by sophomore Johnny Lucas with three. Lucas finished with four ground balls, the second-most on the team.
- Senior Quinn Gannon went 20-for-28 (71.4%) on faceoffs, taking every draw, and secured a game-high 11 ground balls.
- Junior goalie Finn Granara made six saves in the win.
- The Hawks put 26 shots on goal to the Purple Knights' 17.
- Saint Anselm won the ground ball battle, 39-28.
- Saint Anselm improves to 18-19 in 37 all-time meetings against Saint Michael's, winning 10 of the last 11 matchups.
- The Hawks are now 8-0 for the third time in program history, having accomplished the feat previously in 2025 and 2021.
How it Happened
Boyle netted the first goal just 42 seconds into the game, and Fowler kept the Hawks momentum going with a pole goal a few minutes later. The Purple Knights got on the board with 6:36 remaining in the first but Saint Anselm responded with a man-up goal from Boyle off a nice feed from Turpin. O'Brien and Turpin netted goals and Saint Michael's got one on the board as the Hawks led 5-2 going into the second.
Boyle completed his hat trick just 51 seconds into the second and a goal from Burns had Saint Anselm ahead 7-2 with 12:23 to go until halftime. Saint Michael's closed out the half strong, scoring four of the next five goals to go into the break trailing by two, 8-6.
The Purple Knights scored the first goal of the second half to make it a one-goal game, 8-7, but the Hawks buckled down on defense while scoring three straight goals to go into the fourth with an 11-7 lead.
Saint Anselm led for the remainder of the game, with Turpin scoring the final goal for the Hawks, completing his hat trick, as Saint Anselm won 13-11.
