Turpin Guides No. 4 Men’s Lacrosse to 17-3 Victory Over Franklin Pierce in NE10 Opener

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Led by a seven-goal performance by sophomore Ben Turpin, the No. 4 Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team downed Franklin Pierce University by a final score of 17-3 in the Hawks' Northeast 10 Conference opener on Saturday afternoon at Grappone Stadium.

Highlights

  • Turpin finished with nine points, scoring seven times while adding a pair of helpers. He also accounted for three ground balls.
  • Senior Chris Claflin, junior Mark Boyle, and sophomores Eddie O'Brien and Matt Lemay each notched three points as O'Brien recorded a hat trick. Lemay was credited with three ground balls.
  • Seniors Aidan Webb and Charlie Dean each notched one goal as freshman Nick Burns picked up his first collegiate goal to go along with one assist.
  • Junior Nathan Alberti registered a pair of assists while senior Nicholas Palermo had one.
  • A successful day from the dot was led by senior Quinn Gannon who went 11-for-14 (78.6%) on faceoffs while scooping up a team-high six ground balls.
  • Junior Evan Spillane went 6-for-7 (85.7%) on draws while freshman TJ Paolucci won both faceoffs taken. Spillane had four ground balls, tied with sophomore Max Fowler.
  • Senior Brendan Crowley and sophomore Johnny Lucas each secured three ground balls.
  • Junior Jake Klepacki notched a team-best two caused turnovers as the Hawks caused nine as a squad.
  • Junior Finn Granara made five stops over 45 minutes in the start in goal, while freshman Cam Sinclair and senior Naish Kelly came in to seal the victory.
  • Saint Anselm outshot Franklin Pierce, 30-10, in shots on target.
  • The Hawks were near perfect on clears, going 18-for-19 (94.7%), limiting the Ravens to an 80.0% efficiency over 25 clearing attempts.
  • Saint Anselm picked up 44 ground balls as the Ravens would scoop just 29.
  • The Hawks improved to 25-4 in the all-time series against the Ravens, which dates back to the 1998 season, with the victory. The win marked the fourth straight over Franklin Pierce (2023, 2024, 2025, 2026).
  • Saint Anselm has now opened with a 5-0 record for the fourth time in program history (2016, 2021, 2025, 2026).

How it Happened

Saint Anselm got out to a 6-0 lead after the opening quarter as Turpin and Lemay each notched a pair of goals while Boyle and O'Brien added one tally apiece.

Franklin Pierce got on the board with a man-up goal 6:13 into the second quarter before the Hawks' offense exploded for 11 consecutive goals. The Ravens would score the game's final two goals as Saint Anselm cruised to its fifth straight victory to open the campaign.

Saint Anselm (5-0, 1-0 NE10) will host Bentley University (3-4, 1-1 NE10) on Wednesday, March 25 in the second meeting of the season between the Hawks and the Falcons. Saint Anselm earned a 10-6 road victory in a non-conference game at Bentley on March 4 when the Falcons were ranked No. 10 in the nation. Faceoff between the two teams is slated for 4 p.m. at Grappone Stadium.
