WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior
Josh Morissette scored a season-high 28 points as the Saint Anselm College men's basketball team erased a 17-point deficit, but the Hawks fell short, 85-79, at Bentley University on Wednesday in a Northeast 10 Conference contest at the Dana Center.
Highlights
- This marked the 111th all-time meeting between these two programs, with Saint Anselm falling to 55-56 against Bentley in the series, which began in 1975.
- Saint Anselm is now 10-2 in league play with a 17-5 record overall.
- Morissette matched his season-high of seven three-pointers made on 14 attempts, also shooting 50% (8-16) from the field en route to a season-best 28 points scored with two rebounds and an assist. Morissette has scored in double figures in 11 straight games.
- Junior Jack Medalie recorded a double-double for the second game in a row, scoring 14 points while matching his career-high of 10 rebounds.
- Sophomore Will Davies also recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 assists, recording 10+ assists in two of the last three games while scoring 10+ points in 11 straight.
- Sophomore Jovan Ristic tallied his team-best 13th double-double of the season, with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
- Saint Anselm outrebounded Bentley 45-36, but the Falcons won the turnover battle, 8-3.
How it Happened
Bentley started 3-5 from long range to open the game, building an early 15-7 lead, but Morissette halted the run with a pair of threes to make it a 17-13 game. Morissette hit one more three-pointer to cap off a 14-4 run, as the Hawks led by two, 21-19. The Falcons finished out the half strong, leading by 10 at the break, 43-33.
Bentley started the second half on a 7-0 run to build its largest lead of the game, 50-33, but a Davies layup and Morissette's three-pointer trimmed it to 12, 50-38.
Morissette scored 19 points over nine minutes as the Hawks tied the score, erasing a 17-point deficit, 65-65, with just over six minutes remaining in the game. Bentley retook the lead, but a three-pointer from freshman
Edward Onyia tied things up once again, 75-75, with 3:42 on the clock.
The Falcons ended the game on a 10-4 run, holding off Saint Anselm's comeback attempt to win the game, 85-79.
