Men’s Ice Hockey Advances to NE10 Championship with 3-2 Win Over Saint Michael’s in Triple Overtime

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – Freshman Alec O'Connor scored 6:08 into the third overtime to lift the No. 3 Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team to a 3-2 road win over defending NE10 champion and second-seeded Saint Michael's College in the Northeast 10 Championship Semifinals on Saturday at Cairns Arena. With the victory, Saint Anselm (14-13-4) advances to face top-seeded Assumption University on Saturday, March 7 for a second straight opportunity to capture the NE10 title.

Tonight's game spanned 106:08, marking the longest game in NE10 ice hockey history, topping the previous record of 102:25 which was set on Feb. 23, 2019 in an NE10 Semifinals bout between the Hawks and Assumption.

  • O'Connor recorded two points (1-1-2), including the overtime game-winner, to lift the Hawks to victory over the Purple Knights.

  • The Hawks went 0-for-4 with the man advantage but generated eight power play shots.
  • Saint Anselm, moved to 33-22-4 in the all-time series against Saint Michael's, with a 2-3-0 record in the 2025-26 season.

How it Happened

Saint Anselm took a quick 2-0 lead in the opening period as Kelly opened the scoring 6:05 into the action, finishing a feed from Tremblay and Hoffman. Just 52 seconds later, Cordeiro doubled the score for the Hawks, tallying a goal off of a pass from Martins.

Saint Michael's cut into the deficit midway through the second period when AJ Sacco converted at 11:06 to make it 2-1 heading into the second intermission.

The Purple Knights evened the contest early in the third period as SJ LeComte netted the tying goal at 3:46, forcing overtime.

Following the tied regulation periods and two scoreless extra periods, the teams skated into the third overtime, pushing the total game time to 106:08, the longest contest in Northeast 10 Championship history. O'Connor then scored on a setup from Cordeiro and Kelly, firing home the decisive goal 6:08 into the third overtime to secure the 3-2 victory, sending the Hawks to the conference title game.

The top seeded Greyhounds will host the Hawks at the Worcester Ice Center on Saturday, March 7. The two teams met four times in the regular season, with the Hawks earning a 2-1-1 record, including a regulation win in their most recent matchup in Worcester on Feb. 14.
