Morissette’s Big Day Fuels Men’s Basketball’s 76-63 Win Over AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.  – Senior Josh Morissette scored a season-high 29 points to lead the Saint Anselm College men's basketball team past American International College, 76-63, at Henry A. Butova Gymnasium in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup.
 
Highlights 
  • Saint Anselm improves to 86-47 against American International in the 133rd all-time meeting. The Hawks have won 13 of the last 15 meetings, including four straight, against the Yellow Jackets in the series that dates back to 1935.
  • The first-place Hawks improve to 13-4 in NE10 action with a 20-7 record overall.
  • his 16th straight game scoring in double figures, shooting 6-13 from long range and 9-10 from the free throw line.
  • Sophomore Jovan Ristic moves up to a tie for sixth place in Division II men's basketball with his 14th double-double of the season, matching his career-high of 16 rebounds with 13 points, five assists, and a steal.
  • Freshman Edward Onyia tallied his third double-double of the season, scoring 10 points with 11 rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in his second consecutive start.
  • Sophomore Will Davies scored 12 points with six rebounds, six assists, and two blocks.
  • Sophomore Paulius Rapolis had 10 rebounds and four blocked shots as well as seven points.
How it Happened
 
The Hawks started the game on a 13-0 run, with four different scorers getting in on the action. Morissette knocked down his fourth three-pointer of the first half, followed by a three-pointer from freshman Jakye Rainey to give Saint Anselm its largest lead of the game, 35-11. The Hawks eventually increased their lead to 26, 47-21, but AIC ended the first half on a 13-4 run, shrinking its deficit to 17 points, 51-34, at the break.  
 
After the Hawks increased their lead back to 21, 61-40, the Yellow Jackets rattled off a 9-0 run to pull within 12, 61-49, with 9:30 remaining in the game. AIC put together another flurry of scores as the Saint Anselm lead shrank to single digits, 66-58, but the Hawks closed out the game strong, securing the wire-to-wire win, 76-63.

The Saint Anselm men's basketball team (20-7, 13-4 NE10) will play its regular-season finale at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium against Saint Michael's College (16-11, 10-7 NE10) in an NE10 matchup on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 7:30 p.m., with the Hawks celebrating Senior Day.
