Tatum Forbes and junior
Bella Vaz both eclipsed 20 points as the Saint Anselm College women's basketball team defeated Southern New Hampshire University, 77-55, at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup on Tuesday.
Highlights
- This was the 81st all-time meeting between the Hawks and Penmen, with Saint Anselm improving to 55-26 in the series that began in 1977.
- The Hawks improve to 11-8 on the year with a 6-8 mark in NE10 action this season.
- Forbes Saint Anselm with 24 points, nine assists, eight rebounds, and a season-high five steals, shooting 11-18 from the field.
- Vaz scored 19 first-half points as she scored a career-high 21, knocking down five three-pointers on 10 attempts, a new career-best mark. Vaz also corralled a career-high six rebounds.
- Junior Kaitlin McDonough grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds with seven points.
- The Hawks outrebounded SNHU 39-31 and led for 38 of 40 minutes in the game.
How it Happened
After SNHU made the first basket of the game, the Hawks made five of their next eight shots, including a pair of threes, to take a 13-4 lead. SNHU answered quickly to make a one-possession game, 15-12, but Vaz scored eight points to end the quarter, finishing with 13 as Saint Anselm led 23-12 at the end of the quarter.
Vaz opened the second with two more threes as she had already eclipsed her career-high in scoring with 19 points, and the Hawks led by 20, 37-17. Saint Anselm continued to lead at the half, 43-25.
The Hawks continued to play stout defense in the third quarter, holding the Penmen to just 10 points as the Saint Anselm lead increased to 23 points, 58-35, going into the fourth.
It was all Forbes in the final frame, as she scored nine points and had three assists to put the game away as Saint Anselm won the game, 77-55.
