How it Happened
Both offenses started slow with the Hawks missing their first four shots and the Falcons missing their first three before Bentley's Cash McClure and Medalie traded three-pointers to open the scoring. Medalie scored eight of the first 10 points for Saint Anselm to give the Hawks an early 10-6 lead.
A three from Davies and two from Morissette gave Saint Anselm its first double-digit lead of the game, 21-10. With the Hawks still leading by 10, 28-18, Bentley responded, going on a 10-2 run to pull back within two points, 30-28. The Falcons continued to keep things close, but the Hawks hung onto a three-point lead going into halftime, 40-37.
Bentley knocked down its first three shots of the second half to take its first lead since the score was 6-5 in favor of the Falcons, going ahead 44-42. As Bentley's Cooper Farrall scored 10 quick points to start the second, giving the Falcons a three-point edge, 52-49, the Hawks didn't back down, answering with a 10-0 run to reclaim the lead, 59-52.
A three-pointer pulled the Falcons back within two of the Hawks, 59-57, but Medalie drilled another three and finished a layup inside, followed by a score from Davies as Saint Anselm started to pull away, going up 66-57. Despite the Hawks leading by 10, 72-62, with four minutes to play, the Falcons went on a late run with a steal and a layup to make it a four-point game, 74-70, with 40 seconds remaining.
Davies converted on a fast break layup, and Ristic knocked down a pair of free throws to ice the game, as Saint Anselm secured the 78-70 win.
