GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm women's basketball team fell in a Northeast 10 Conference battle at Adelphi University, 53-51, at the Center for Recreation & Sport on Sunday.

- Saint Anselm falls to 12-10 all-time against Adelphi in the 22nd meeting between the Hawks and Panthers, a series that began in 2010.
- Senior Tatum Forbes recorded her second double-double of the season with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. Forbes shot 7-17 from the field, 1-1 from three, and 5-9 from the line to go with two steals and a block on defense.
- Senior Anna Nelson scored a career-high 15 points, knocking down three three-pointers for the fourth time this season, also grabbing three rebounds.
- Junior Kaitlin McDonough scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds, with two blocks, a steal, and an assist.
How it Happened
Forbes scored the first two baskets of the game and assisted on a Nelson layup as the Hawks led 6-0 early in the first quarter. A McDonough offensive rebound and putback put Saint Anselm up 8-0 And Adelphi got on the board on the next possession to end the Hawks' run. Forbes scored the final nine points of the quarter for Saint Anselm, including a half-court heave at the buzzer that put the Hawks up 17-10 at the end of the first.
McDonough opened the quarter with a layup, but Adelphi responded, finishing the quarter on a 13-4 run as the Panthers held the Hawks to just six points in the second, as the two teams were tied up, 23-23, at the half.
The Panthers began the second half on a 10-0 run, but Nelson rattled home a pair of threes, and a McDonough layup pulled the Hawks back within two, 33-31. After a few scoreless minutes of play, freshman
Hannah Lynch netted her first career points with a pair of free throws for the Hawks to tie the score at 33-33. Adelphi would go into the fourth leading 38-35 after a late three-pointer with 24 seconds on the clock.
After the teams traded baskets to open the fourth, Lynch tied the score once again with a tough layup as the shot clock buzzer sounded to make the score 45-45, and Nelson gave the Hawks the lead with a corner three on the next possession as Saint Anselm led by three with under five minutes to play. The Panthers answered with a layup and a three-pointer to tie the score at 50-50, and a late jumper and a free throw gave Adelphi the win, 53-51.
