Medalie, Davies Lead Men’s Basketball to Fourth Straight Win

NEW HAVEN, Conn.  – Sophomore Will Davies and junior Jack Medalie each scored 16 points as the Saint Anselm College men's basketball team defeated Southern Connecticut State University, 80-67, at the James Moore Field House in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup on Wednesday.

Highlights
  • This marked the 55th all-time meeting between these two programs, with the Hawks improving to 36-19 against Southern Connecticut State in the series that began in 1969.
  • Saint Anselm is now 9-1 in league play with a 16-4 record overall, remaining in first place in the NE10. The Hawks continue to receive votes, marking their fourth consecutive week in the NABC Coaches' Poll, the lone team in the NE10.
  • 9-1 is the best start for Saint Anselm in NE10 play since the 2018-19 season, when the Hawks started their league slate with an 11-1 record.
  • Davies scored a team-high 16 points, knocking down a career-high four three-pointers, while dishing out 10 assists for his third double-double of the season.
  • Medalie also scored 16 points, with a team-high eight rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
  • Senior Josh Morissette scored in double-figures for the ninth straight game, hitting four threes en route to 14 points.
  • Freshman Edward Onyia scored 11 points with four rebounds, two steals, and an assist, while sophomores Jovan Ristic and Paulius Rapolis each scored 10 points. Ristic scored 10+ points for a team-best 19th time this season.
  • Saint Anselm never trailed in the game, outrebounding SCSU 34-30. The Hawks shot 11-27 (40.7%) from three-point range while holding the Owls to a 4-15 (26.7%) mark from deep.
How it Happened

The Hawks took an early six-point lead, knocking down six of their first nine shot attempts with threes from Morissette and sophomore Isaiah Griffin. SCSU tied the score at 16-16, but Ristic drilled a three and put in a layup after crashing the offensive glass to put Saint Anselm back up by seven, 23-16.

The Owls continued to hang around despite falling behind by as much as nine, 28-19, trimming their deficit to just two points, 33-31, but the Hawks ended the first half strong, going into the break with a 42-33 lead.

Medalie scored a quick five points as the Hawks' lead grew to 12, 51-39, but a counter from the Owls cut the lead in half, 51-45. SCSU eventually tied the score at 62-62, but back-to-back threes and a layup from Davies put Saint Anselm back on top, 70-62.

A dunk from Onyia and a corner three from Morissette iced the game for the Hawks as they secured the road win, 80-67.
