Women’s Basketball Drops NE10 Matchup to Assumption, 61-60

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's basketball team dropped a Northeast 10 Conference contest against Assumption University, 61-60, at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium on Wednesday.

  • This marked the 89th all-time meeting between these two programs, with a record of 56-34 overall against Assumption University in the series, dating back to 1979. 
  • The Hawks are now 8-5 on the year with a 3-5 mark in NE10 play.
  • Senior Tatum Forbes led the Hawks with 21 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.
  • Junior Elise MacNair scored 18 points with two assists.
  • Junior Kaitlin McDonough had 12 rebounds paired with nine points for the Hawks.
How it Happened
The Hawks had a strong start, scoring the first 7 points of the game. The Greyhounds responded with a 13-4 run to end the first quarter, taking a 13-11 lead. 

The second quarter saw the two Northeast 10 foes go back-and-forth, and with one minute left in the quarter, junior Meghan Trapper tied the game at 24-24 with a driving layup. Forbes ended the half with a buzzer-beater layup to give the Hawks a 26-25 lead at the break.

The Greyhounds started the second half with a 12-3 run, taking their biggest lead of the game at 37-29. Senior Anna Nelson knocked down a pair of threes to make it a five-point game, 37-32. Saint Anselm made their final three shots of the quarter, with five points from MacNair, as the Hawks now trail by only three, 44-41.

Forbes led the Hawks with 15 points in the fourth quarter to keep the game close with Assumption clinging to a one-possession lead. Saint Anselm fought hard at the end, tying the game at 59-59 with 33 seconds left, but the Hawks fell short on their last-second shot attempt, 61-60.
