Jack Medalie scored a career-high 25 points to lead the Saint Anselm College men's basketball team to a 100-86 win over Assumption University in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium on Wednesday.
Highlights
- This marked the 135th all-time meeting between these two programs. Saint Anselm improves to 74-61 overall against Assumption in the series that began in 1936.
- Saint Anselm is now 7-1 in league play with a 14-4 record overall, remaining in first place in the NE10. The Hawks are receiving votes in the NABC Coaches' Poll for the third week in a row, one of two NE10 teams, joined by Adelphi University.
- Medalie led a group of six double-digit scorers with 25 points, scoring 17 in the second half, as he finished 9-16 from the field, 4-8 from three, and 3-4 from the line with four rebounds.
- Senior Josh Morissette knocked down four three-pointers, tallying 18 points with a season-high six rebounds and three steals.
- Sophomore Jovan Ristic scored 10+ points for a team-best 16th time this season, recording 14 points and 13 rebounds, good for his ninth double-double on the year.
- Sophomores Will Davies and Paulius Rapolis had 12 and 11 points, respectively, with Davies dishing out eight assists.
- Freshman Edward Onyia finished 4-7 from the floor with 11 points and five rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench.
- Saint Anselm had 22 assists on 36 made baskets, compared to just seven assists for Assumption.
- 100 points is a new season-high mark as the Hawks shot 36-64 (56.3%), the third-best shooting night of the year for Saint Anselm. The Hawks have shot over 50% from the field in 10 games this season.
How it Happened
The Greyhounds claimed the lead early in the game, but after the Hawks took a 13-12 advantage with 13:46 remaining in the first half, Saint Anselm refused to relinquish the lead for the rest of the game.
Morissette led all scorers in the first half with 15, making all four of his threes in the first 20 minutes of action. The Hawks' perimeter defense was terrific, holding Assumption to a 0-7 mark from long range in the half.
The Hawks shot an impressive 19-31 (61.3%) in the second half, led by Medalie with 17 points and Ristic with 12, as Saint Anselm pulled away, leading by as much as 26 points before securing the win, 100-86.
