Franklin Pierce Rallies Late to Upend Men’s Basketball, 89-85

RINDGE, N.H.  – The Saint Anselm College men's basketball team fell in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup against Franklin Pierce University, 89-85, on Saturday at The Fieldhouse.
 
Highlights 
  • This marked the 68th all-time meeting between the Hawks and Ravens as Saint Anselm drops to 47-21 in the series that began in 1984.
  • Saint Anselm falls to 5-1 in league play with a 12-4 record overall.
  • Sophomore Jovan Ristic scored 10+ points for the 14th time this season, recording 18 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals, shooting 7-11 on the day.
  • Senior Josh Morissette scored 20+ points for the third straight game, leading the team with 21 points on 6-11 shooting from the field and 4-6 shooting from three with two rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks. Over the last two games, Morissette is posting shooting splits of 56/80/100 and 23 points per contest.
  • Sophomore Will Davies scored 16 points with seven assists, six rebounds, and two blocked shots.
How it Happened
 
Franklin Pierce's Anthony Parker scored 15 points in the first 10 minutes of action as the Ravens led by eight points, 23-15, early in the game. The Hawks trimmed the deficit to three, 34-31, but the Ravens responded with eight straight points to take their largest lead of the half, 42-31.
 
Saint Anselm ended the half on an 11-2 run with Medalie knocking down a pair of threes and Davies making a driving layup as the buzzer sounded, as the Hawks went into the break trailing 44-42.
 
The Hawks started the second half strong on an 8-3 scoring burst to take a three-point edge, 50-47, but the Ravens countered with a 7-0 run to retake the lead, 54-40. Both teams continued to shoot the ball well, going back-and-forth until a flurry of scores from freshman Edward Onyia and Morissette put the Hawks back in the lead with 5:34 on the clock, 78-77.
 
Morissette knocked down his fourth three-pointer of the game to make the score 83-79 in favor of the Hawks, but the Ravens ended the game on a 10-2 run to take the win, 89-85.

The Saint Anselm men's basketball team (12-4, 5-1 NE10) will host Southern Connecticut State University (7-7, 3-3 NE10) on Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 19, at 3:30 p.m. in another NE10 matchup at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
