MANCHESTER, N.H.  – The Saint Anselm College men's basketball team remains in first-place in the Northeast 10 Conference standings at 5-0, defeating Southern New Hampshire University, 92-81, at the Stan Spirou Field House on Tuesday.

Highlights

  • Saint Anselm remains in first place in the NE10, improving to 5-0 in league play with a 12-3 record overall. The Hawks have been the lone NE10 team to receive votes in the NABC Division II National Coaches' Poll the past two weeks.
  • Senior Josh Morissette led the Hawks with his second consecutive 20+ point game, scoring 25 on an efficient 8-10 shooting from the field, 4-4 clip from long range, and 5-5 mark from the charity stripe.
  • Five Hawks in total scored in double figures, including junior Jack Medalie, who had 17 points, shooting 6-12 on the night with five rebounds, two steals, a block, and an assist.

How it Happened

SNHU hit three of its first five shots while forcing two turnovers to take an early 8-5 lead, but Saint Anselm began to stifle the Penmen on defense as five different Hawks got on the board to spark a 15-1 run, taking a 20-9 edge.

Saint Anselm found its groove on offense, knocking down nine of its next 11 shots, including a 4-5 clip from long range, to build a 15-point advantage, 42-37. Morissette sank a pair of tough layups and drilled a three-pointer during the run, and Griffin capped off a great first half for the Hawks with a buzzer-beater three from the corner to give Saint Anselm its largest lead up to that point, 49-33.

Southern New Hampshire started the second on a 7-1 run as the Hawks missed three straight shots, but a dunk from sophomore Paulius Rapolis, followed by a Medalie layup and Morissette three put the Hawks back up by 17, 57-40.

Eight different players scored for the Hawks as the team shot 9-14 to open the second half, as Saint Anselm's lead grew to as much as 23, leading the Penmen 76-53. Morissette continued to lead the charge, tacking on 15 second-half points.

Southern New Hampshire ended the game on an 8-0 run, but it was too late for the Penmen as the Hawks won the game 92-81.
