WINTHROP, Mass. – Coming off a 2-0-0 weekend against Saint Michael's, the Saint Anselm College women's hockey team was well represented in the first edition of the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) weekly awards, with three student-athletes garnering recognition, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Senior captain Brooklyn Schneiderhan was named the Player of the Week following a five-point showing, which tops the league leaderboard. The Helena, Mont. native posted a point on every goal in Friday's season-opening victory over Saint Michael's, 3-2, finishing with a +2 plus/minus. She also registered a pair of goals with a +2 plus/minus rating in Saturday's 4-2 victory at home.
Sophomore defender Justyce Ohlgren was named the the Defensive Player of the Week. She scored two goals, including the game-winner, as she posted the first multi-goal performance of her career in a 3-2 win over Saint Michael's on Friday. Ohlgren added an assist in Saturday's 4-2 victory over the Purple Knights. Over the course of the weekend sweep, the Rogers, Minn. native finished with a +1 plus/minus rating.
Freshman netminder Kayla Czukowski was named the Rookie of the Week backstopping the Hawks to two wins over Saint Michael's to put Saint Anselm at the top of the league standings. The Exton, Pa. native made 26 stops in a 3-2 victory on Friday night before posting 24 saves in Saturday's 4-2 win to finish the weekend with a .926 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average.
Schneiderhan, Ohlgren, Czukowski, and the Hawks will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 4 in a home non-conference matchup against Boston College. Puck drop from Sullivan Arena is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
