How it Happened
The Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead as senior captain Brooklyn Schneiderhan lit the lamp just 4:20 into the first period, finishing on a breakaway chance from a breakout pass from fellow senior captain Cora Webber.
The Hawks doubled their lead less than four minutes later as sophomore Justyce Ohlgren fired a shot in from the point on a feed from Schneiderhan to make it 2-0 with 11:49 to play in the period.
The Purple Knights would cut their deficit to one goal with 6:51 remaining in the opening frame as Alicia McDonald cleaned up a rebound.
Ohlgren's second goal of the contest would once again put the Hawks up by two goals, scoring once again from the blue line, to make it 3-1.
Saint Michael's made it 3-2 with 1:32 remaining in the second period as McDonald tallied her second of the night on an unassisted finish, converting on a 5-on-3 opportunity.
The Purple Knights, still trailing by one, pulled their netminder with 1:01 to play and used the player advantage to fire three shots. Freshman goalie Kayla Czukoski made back-to-back saves before sophomore Taylor Hartinger recorded a blocked shot to keep the Hawks' lead intact to start the season 1-0.
