Men’s Soccer and Pace Play to Scoreless Draw

MANCHESTER, N.H.  – The Saint Anselm College men's soccer team tied Pace, 0-0, in its first Northeast 10 road test at Northwell Stadium on Saturday.

Highlights
  • This was the first meeting between Saint Anselm and Pace all-time, with the Setters reintroducing men's soccer this year after a 35-year hiatus as a program.
  • Freshman Parker Bienvenue-Cernuda and sophomore Chance Prouty had five shots apiece, with Prouty recording two on net.
  • Junior Tyler Telge had a shot on goal in the second half, the best scoring chance of the day for the Hawks, while freshmen Zachary Mantegari and Luke Delia each had two shots on goal.
  • Senior goalie David Hood made six saves, recording his third shutout of the season and the tenth of his career as his record moves to 2-2-4 on the season.
  • Saint Anselm outshot Pace 20-12, including 9-6 in shots on goal.
How it Happened

Saint Anselm had multiple scoring chances in the first half, with three shots going on net, including a Delia shot that was saved by Pace goalie Khais Milligan.

Hood made five saves in the first half, keeping the Setters off the board with the Hawks' defense holding strong.

Hood made an impressive stop off a well-placed corner kick in the 53rd minute that ricocheted around the goalie box before Hood made a kick save to turn a point-blank shot away from the Setters.

Delia had another scoring chance in the 70th minute with a shot on goal from deep in the box after a nice find from Prouty, rocketing a left-footed shot that the goalie squared up to and deflected out of play.

Telge's scoring chance came after weaving his way through a pair of Pace defenders in the 78th minute, finding an opening in front of the goal, but his right-footed shot from about 10 yards out was sent careening off the chest of the Setters' goalie.

A last-ditch effort was made by the Setters, as they let a shot fly from just past midfield that would go right into the waiting mitts of Hood in the 89th minute, the last offensive chance for either team as the score went final, 0-0.
