Men’s Soccer Falls to Bentley, 2-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's soccer team fell to Northeast 10 (NE10) opponent Bentley, 2-0, at Melucci Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Highlights
  • Saint Anselm drops to 22-30-6 all-time against Bentley, suffering their fifth straight loss to the Falcons.
  • Bentley outshot the Hawks 23-14, including 9-4 in shots on goal.
  • The Hawks held a slight edge on corners 7-5.
  • Six different Hawks recorded shots on goal, but Saint Anselm couldn't find the back of the net.
  • Senior goalie David Hood recorded seven saves on the day and gave up two goals as he falls to 2-2-3 on the season.
How it Happened
Hood recorded his first save of the game in the eighth minute, setting the tone for a busy afternoon in net. A minute later, junior Jackson Dresens and freshman Luke Delia registered back-to-back shots on target, but Bentley goalkeeper Cam Hall turned both aside to keep the match scoreless.

Delia led the Hawks with six total shots, including two on goal, while sophomore Chance Prouty added the final three shot attempts for the Hawks in the first half but could only guide one on net, with the chance being turned away in the 20th minute.

Bentley opened up the scoring in the 21st minute when Michael Haikal converted on a penalty kick, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Hawks gained offensive momentum in the second half, upping their shot total from five to nine, with three of those shots on goal, also earning five corner kicks, an increase from one in the first half.

In the 59th minute, freshman Zachary Mantegari nearly found the net with a shot in the box that missed just wide. Junior Yves Maurer tested the keeper in the 62nd minute with a clever attempt off a long throw-in from senior Kyle Myers, but Hall came up with another stop.

Bentley sealed the win in the 72nd minute by Logan Veloria, who ripped a shot from outside of the box that skated across the wet grass and into the bottom right corner of the net. Delia had the final chance on net in the 78th minute, but Hall stood tall once again as the Falcons held on for the clean-sheet victory.
