MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's volleyball team defeated Southern New Hampshire University in three sets at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday.
Saint Anselm 3, SNHU 0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-20)
Highlights
- Freshman Peyton Elward led the Hawks in scoring, tallying 12 points on eight kills with a team-high four service aces, two block assists, one solo block, and two digs.
- Sophomore Taylor Lacerda recorded a blistering .667 attack percentage, notching eight kills on 12 attempts with one assist and five digs.
- Freshman Mckenna O'Connell notched a match-high 32 assists with two kills, a service ace, and six digs.
- Junior libero Madeline Burke recorded a team-best 15 digs, defending the back line with zero reception errors.
- Junior Hollyn Frano had nine kills to lead the Hawks, also notching eight digs and a block assist.
SET 1 | An early 7-0 run for the Hawks, propelled by three kills from Frano, gave Saint Anselm a 9-3 lead that would never get below five points for the rest of the set. The Hawks hit at an excellent .344 percentage in the first set with 15 kills on 32 attempts, taking it 25-15.
SET 2 | SNHU jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the second set, but the Saint Anselm chipped away at the Penmen lead, pulling back within two, 12-10. After SNHU pushed its lead back to four, 17-13, the Hawks rallied with five straight scores and seven of the next nine points to take a 20-18 lead. The Penmen regained the lead, 22-21, but Saint Anselm closed out the set on a 4-1 run, capped off by a service ace from Elward.
SET 3 | Saint Anselm capitalized on four attack errors and two service errors from SNHU early in the third set to take an 8-2 advantage. Six straight points from the Hawks put the set out of reach as Saint Anselm led by 10, 15-5, before eventually winning the set and the match, 25-20.
