MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Saint Michael's as it opened up its Northeast 10 Conference (NE10) slate at home on Saturday afternoon at the STA Tennis Courts.
Highlights
- The Hawks extended their winning streak in the all-time series against the Purple Knights to seven matches, dating back to the 2020-21 season.
- The victory marked the first time Saint Anselm has opened a season with two consecutive wins since the 2015-16 campaign, with both wins also coming against Plymouth State and Saint Michael's.
Doubles (1, 3, 2)
- Seniors Irene Garbo and Natalia Gonzalez Ramos cruised to a 6-1 victory over Lucy McPherson and Emma Gredenhag at the top flight.
- Sophomore Polina Makarenko and junior Claire Kochenbach held on for a 6-4 win to earn the Hawks the doubles point, defeating Annabelle Aldrete and Jedidah Xu.
- The senior duo of Julie Börschig and Camila Heredia Osante dropped their match in a tiebreaker that ended 7-4 in favor of Olivia Larson and Ana Maria Ricuarte.
Singles (6, 5, 2, 3, 1, 4)
- After Kochenbach dropped her match to Ricuarte at No. 6, Heredia Osante gave the Hawks a boost with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Aldrete at No. 5 to put the Hawks back in front.
- Borschig fell to Larsen in straight sets at No. 2 before Gonzalez Ramos rolled to a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Gredenhag at No. 3.
- With the Hawks up 3-2, Garbo provided the decisive point at the top flight, rallying for a 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 triumph against McPherson.
- At No. 4, Makarenko battled in a marathon against Xu, but ultimately fell by set scores of 6-2, 5-7, 0-1 (10-12) as the third-set tiebreak extended past 10 points.
