Box Score 2 MELBOURNE, FL – Saint Anselm softball kicked off their Space Coast Games in dominant fashion on Friday, March 14th, securing back-to-back victories. The Hawks opened with a solid 4-2 win over Minnesota Crookston before cruising to a commanding 7-0 shutout against Ursuline.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):

The Golden Eagles struck first in the top of the opening inning with an RBI single to left field from Rayna French.

The Hawks responded in the bottom of the third when sophomore Brooke Tardugno (Methuen, Mass.) led off with a triple and scored moments later on a wild pitch. Senior Audrey Arsenault (Stow, Mass.) followed with a walk, stole second, and came around to score on an error, giving Saint Anselm the lead.

Minnesota Crookston answered in the fourth as Irelyn Spencer led off with a single and later scored on an error, tying the game.

Saint Anselm regained the lead in the fifth, starting with a double from sophomore Jamie Calkins (Charlton, Mass.). She later scored on another double, this time off the bat of junior Rose Reitmeyer (Oxford, Conn.), who also came around to score on an RBI single from senior Stephanie Tardugno (Methuen, Mass.).

Sophomore Sam Ryan (Tewksbury, Mass.) shut the door in the final three innings, allowing just two baserunners while securing the complete-game victory.

This was the third meeting between the two programs, with Saint Anselm remaining undefeated in the series at 3-0.

The game took a turn in the bottom of the sixth when Saint Anselm strung together two walks and three singles to plate the first two runs.

An error kept the inning alive, and the Hawks capitalized with four more singles, tacking on five additional runs to break the game open.
