GAME 1 (USF):
  • To kick start opening day for Saint Anselm senior Sophia DiPippo (Cranston, R.I.) took the mound for the Hawks tabbing a strikeout in the bottom of the first inning. The slated home team University of Sioux Falls (USF) scored their first run in the bottom of the second inning which was kickstarted by a single up the middle from Isaacson. After a sacrifice bunt and advancing of the runners to scoring position a single to center field would allow the run to score. The Hawks would escape the inning with just one run allowed.
  • The most productive inning for USF came in the bottom of the fifth. A leadoff walk put the first runner on the bases. The follow up batter would secure a single to left field, and the runners would advance on stolen bases. After loading the bases, the Hawks would walk in a run before a big triple from Isaacson allowed three more runs to score for the home team. One more run would score on a sacrifice fly to give USF a 6-0 lead.
  • In the top of the sixth inning junior Rose Reitmeyer (Oxford, Conn.) led off earning a walk to get on base and later stealing second. But strong pitching from the home team would strike out the side.

GAME 2 (St. Cloud State.):
  • Saint Anselm struck first and quickly in their second match-up of the day as senior Audrey Arsenault (Stow, Mass.) singled to short-stop to kick off the opening slot. Arsenault then stole two bases on St. Cloud St. back-to-back. Sophomore Jamie Calkins (Charlton, Mass.) then earned a walk and quickly advanced to second. The Hawks scored on a wild pitch as Arsenault reached home and Calkins advanced to third. After another walk and a pair of outs for the Hawks senior Alyssa Wironen (Leominster, Mass.) then stepped up and hammered a double to center field bringing in two more runs giving Saint Anselm the 3-0 lead after just one inning.
  • The Hawks extended their lead to four runs in the bottom of the second inning as sophomore Brooke Tardugno (Methuen, Mass.) led off with a single to center field. Arsenault continued her hitting streak into the second singling to left field and pushing Tardugno to second. After a strike out senior Sam Wiberg (Exeter, N.H.) stepped into the box and delivered a single to center field to load the bases for Saint Anselm. A sacrifice fly from Reitmeyer would allow Tardugno to score before the side would foul out to the catcher.
  • In the top of the third inning the visiting St. Cloud St. would score their first run off of a double from Fitzgerald. St. Cloud would score again before Saint Anselm could respond in the top of the fifth inning set up by a single to right field from Stangle. A two-run home run from Weiss would bring the game to within one run before Saint Anselm could stop the bleeding.
  • The Hawks replied in the bottom of the fifth inning as Lily Mason (Derry, N.H.) singled to second base. After a pitching change the bats would stay hot for the Hawks as Wironen would connect for a single to center field pushing Mason to second. Freshman Katie Fox (Dracut, Mass.) reached on an error made by the short stop as Wironen advanced to second and Mason advanced to third. A walk for B. Tardugno would give the Hawks their fifth run, unearned before a line-out ended the inning for Saint Anselm.
  • The game became the most interesting in the final inning of play. In the top of the seventh inning St. Cloud St. quickly faced two outs, but a Holzhueter double to left field kept their hopes alive. Holmes would step in and up for the squad firing a two-run shot to left field before the Hawks would force a ground out. In the bottom of the inning Saint Anselm started with a Wironen walk and a Madeline Trisket (Binghamton, N.Y.) sacrifice bunt to put a runner in scoring position. After earning their second out B. Tardugno would walk and then advance to second on a wild pitch, where pinch-runner Stephanie Tardugno (Methuen, Mass.) would also advance to third. The Hawks would load the bases on an Arsenault walk. A wild pitch would allow S. Tardugno to score a walk-off steal of home plate to win the game 6-5.
