Ristic, Medalie Guide Men’s Basketball Over Post, 85-70

MANCHESTER, N.H.  – The Saint Anselm College men's basketball team placed five scorers in double-figures in Friday's 85-70 win over Post University at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium in a non-conference matchup.
 
Highlights 
  • Today's matchup between Saint Anselm and Post marked the 17th all-time meeting between the two programs. Saint Anselm improves to 13-4 overall against Post in the series that began in 2004.
  • Saint Anselm improves to 8-2 on the year, and the Hawks are now 3-1 at Stoutenburgh Gym.
  • Sophomore Jovan Ristic scored 10+ points for the eighth game in a row, his ninth time overall, also posting his fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Ristic went 5-9 from the field, 1-3 from deep, and 4-5 from the line, also dishing two assists.
  • Junior Jack Medalie led the Hawks with 16 points, shooting 6-11 and 3-7 from long range, also tallying a career-high five blocks with three rebounds, and two assists.
  • Sophomore Will Davies led the team with eight assists as he continues to lead all of Division II with 7.9 per game. Davies also had 12 points and four boards.
  • Senior Josh Morissette and freshman Edward Onyia each recorded 11 points, and Morissette tallied five rebounds, two assists, and a block.
  • Sophomore Greg Guidinger and freshmen Josh Caruso and Myles Kirby all recorded their first career points as members of the Hawks.
  • Saint Anselm outrebounded Post 42-23, and the Hawks shot 56.6% (30-53) from the field, 47.6% (10-21) from three, and 75% (15-20) from the charity stripe.
How it Happened
 
The Hawks scored the first four points of the game, and then Post scored the next five to take their first lead of the game. The Eagles' lead increased to six after a three-pointer, 15-9, but Morissette sparked a 7-0 run for the Hawks with four straight points of his own as Saint Anselm retook the lead 16-15.
 
The first half continued to go back-and-forth as Post took a three-point lead, 24-21, but the Hawks tied the score at 31-31. Saint Anselm ended the half on a 13-2 run with Medalie rattling off eight points for the Hawks, sending them into the break with a 44-33 lead.
 
Both teams shot the ball well to open the game, shooting over 50% from the field each, as the Hawks' lead never fell below six for the remainder of the game. Guidinger knocked down a pair of threes, Morissette drilled a mid-range jumper, and Onyia hit a three of his own, pushing the Hawks' lead back to 12, 64-52.
 
Saint Anselm continued to make its shots, holding off the Eagles to secure the win, 85-70.
