How it Happened
SET 1 | Eight attacking errors by the Hawks compared to just one for the Ravens put Saint Anselm at a quick disadvantage as FPU led the entirety of the first set en route to a 25-14 win. An 11-2 run by the Ravens put the score out of reach despite an early rally by the Hawks.
SET 2 | Another efficient start for Franklin Pierce had the Ravens ahead, 12-8, but four kills from Shelton and seven miscues from FPU catapulted the Hawks to a 19-12 lead as they capped off an 11-0 run. Shelton also added two aces, and Burke would finish off the set with two aces of her own as the Hawks tied the match, 25-16.
SET 3 | Franklin Pierce tallied the first four points of the third set and would lead for the early stages of the frame, but a late push with a pair of kills and an ace from freshman
Peyton Elward gave Saint Anselm its first lead of the set, 18-17. Dembski had six kills alone in the third set, as the Hawks carried their momentum to a 25-22 set victory.
SET 4 | Saint Anselm led early in the fourth, 7-4, and despite not giving up the lead, the Ravens hung around, tying the score up at three different points, including 11-11. After a kill by Roinnel and an ace from Shelton, Franklin Pierce would go on a 6-2 scoring spree to take a 17-15 edge over the Hawks. Elward and Shelton helped spark a 5-0 run for Saint Anselm and three straight errors would doom the Ravens as the Hawks won the set, 25-21, winning the match in four.
