GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – After taking down the sixth seed, Pace University, in the Northeast 10 Conference Quarterfinals, the nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team will face off against Adelphi University (12-5) in the NE10 Semifinal round on Friday, Nov. 7 at 4:00 p.m. at Motamed Field.
The third-seeded Hawks downed the Setters by a final score of 3-1 behind a two-goal performance from junior Meghan Smith. Senior Maggie Burchill added an insurance goal in the second half as junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Wehrum, second in the nation in goals against average (0.58), posted her 12th victory of the season. On the season, Wehrum has posted eight solo shutouts and one combined shutout.
Saint Anselm (14-5) heads into Friday evening's road clash riding a six-game winning streak which began with an 8-0 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College on Oct. 14. The Hawks are fifth in NCAA Division II with 8.89 points per game, as they have outscored their opponents 63-18 through 19 games. The Hawks are second in the league in goals allowed per game (0.95).
Seven members of the Saint Anselm squad earned NE10 All-Conference honors, highlighted by senior back Millie Forster being selected as the Defensive Player of the Year. Forster's Defensive Player of the Year selection is the fifth in program history and the first since Grace Michael in 2023. Forster was named to the All-Conference First Team while sophomore Meghan Carey and senior Marissa Politano were selected to the Second Team, juniors Mackenzie Wehrum and Laurentien van den Akker earn Third Team honors, and freshmen Breanna Shorey and Bella DiFiore were honored on the All-Rookie Team, rounding out the Hawks' selections.
In her 14th year at the helm, head coach Carolyn King-Robitaille has led the Hawks to their 10th consecutive NE10 Championship berth in 2025, earning NE10 titles twice (2019, 2023).
Adelphi earned the No. 2 seed in the NE10 Championship after posting a 10-2 conference mark, including a 1-0 win over the Hawks on Oct. 4. The Panthers scored just 7:07 into that contest and help on to win, despite six shots on target from Saint Anselm and seven corner opportunities. Adelphi survived an overtime scare from the No. 7 seed, Southern Connecticut State University, in Tuesday night's quarterfinal clash in Garden City, as Kelly Johnson scored 3:41 into the first overtime to advance the Panthers to the semifinals for the first time since the 2023 season. The Hawks handed the Panthers a 3-1 loss in that contest, with the Hawks going on to win their second-ever conference championship.
The winner of Friday's game will move on to face the winner of the other semifinal between top-seeded Assumption University and fourth-seeded Bentley University in the NE10 Championship game on Sunday, Nov. 9.
