Women’s Basketball Opens Regular Season with 64-56 Win over Felician

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm women's basketball team opened its 2025-26 season with a 64-56 win over Felician University at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium in the opening matchup of the Saint Anselm Challenge on Friday.

  • Junior Elise MacNair scored 15 points, shooting 5-9 from the floor, to go with five rebounds, three blocks, and two steals while leading the team with a +10 on the court.
  • Junior Kaitlin McDonough led the Hawks on the glass with seven rebounds, along with six points and a steal.
  • The Hawks recorded 37 points off turnovers, while the Golden Eagles recorded just six.
  • In just nine minutes of play, freshman Amarilis Shubick scored four points but was second best on the team with a +9 on the floor.
How it Happened

The Golden Eagles opened the scoring with a free throw and led 1-0 for the first three minutes of play until Forbes got the Hawks on the board with a layup. In a low-scoring first quarter, sophomore Bella Vaz hit the Hawks' only three of the frame, while Forbes had the other five points as Saint Anselm trailed, 10-8 after one quarter.

Felician scored four unanswered points to open the second, but the Hawks' offense picked back up, fueled by Forbes and senior Harmony Marquez scoring in the paint, followed by a three-pointer from senior Anna Nelson that evened the score at 16-16. Marquez gave the Hawks an 18-17 lead on a layup in the paint off a nice find from Nelson, but Felician ended the half on an 8-4 run as the Golden Falcons led 25-22 at the break.

MacNair scored the first five points of the second half on a three-pointer and a layup while Forbes added two baskets along with a Nelson layup that put the Hawks back in front, 33-31. Felician answered with an 8-2 run, and a late layup from the Golden Falcons had them up 41-38 at the end of the third.

Saint Anselm began to find a rhythm in the fourth, making seven of its first eight shot attempts led by McNair, McDonough, and Shubick, who each made two shots as the Hawks led 53-42. MacNair converted on a layup plus the foul for a three-point play, and a putback layup from McDonough made the score 58-43, the largest lead of the game for Saint Anselm. The Hawks led the rest of the way, securing the 64-56 win over Felician.
