Dresens, Hood Boost Men’s Soccer to 1-0 NE10 Victory at Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Jackson Dresens scored in the seventh minute as senior goalkeeper David Hood made seven saves to secure a 1-0 Northeast 10 (NE10) victory over Assumption University on Tuesday night at Marois Field.

  • Junior Jackson Dresens scored his first collegiate goal, finding the back of the net in the seventh minute.
  • Assists came from sophomore Chance Prouty and freshman Luke Delia.
  • The seven-save shutout for senior David Hood marked his fifth clean sheet of the season and 12th of his career.
  • With the victory, the Hawks swept the season series against the Greyhounds.
  • Saint Anselm improves its mark against Assumption to 40-18-5 in the all-time series.

How it Happened

Dresens found the back of the net on feeds from sophomore Chance Prouty and freshman Luke Delia to give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead.

Prouty nearly added an insurance goal for Saint Anselm, but the Greyhounds' goalie stood firm with a kick save to keep the Hawks' lead at one.

In the 26th minute, Assumption threatened with a free kick from just outside the box that soared just past the wall of Saint Anselm defenders which was saved by Hood.

The hosts would send a flurry of shots towards goal five minutes into the second half, sending Hood to the ground on back-to-back shots as the senior made a clutch diving save to keep the Hawks in front in the 62nd minute.

Freshman Zachary Mantegari had a chance on a through-ball from Prouty in the 77th minute, but was denied on the doorstep.

The home side put two shots on target in the 87th and 88th minutes, both of which were denied by Hood to seal the victory.
