How it Happened
In just the fourth minute of action, a nice pass from Jones to Prouty gave the sophomore midfielder some room to operate down the far left side of the field, as his cross into the box was right on target to McCabe, who one-timed a shot with his right foot past the SCSU goalie to give Saint Anselm a 1-0 lead.
The Owls answered in the 25th minute with some nice passes in a crowded box by Jeremy Martin and Jake Novoshelski that led to a clearing for Ryad Benmssaoud, who fired a right-footed shot past Hood to tie things up, 1-1.
Southern Connecticut State took the lead in the 32nd minute on a goal from Martin, who headed in a throw-in from Kasper Murzinski to the bottom right corner of the box to make the score 2-1.
Right before the half ended, a pass from Benmessaoud to a leaping Samuel Nagy added another score for the Owls, with a left-footed scissor kick soaring over the outstretched arms of Hood to make the score 3-1 in the 44th minute.
Prouty nearly got on the board for the Hawks in the 54th minute with an open look from just inside the box that went over the crossbar off a left-footed blast.
Martin scored again for the Owls in the 73rd minute, putting the game away as his chip-in made the score 4-1, with the Hawks unable to put together any scoring chances in the to close out the second half.
