How it Happened
SNHU nearly got on the board in the 11th minute with a shot ricocheting off the left post, followed by another point-blank shot that was blocked by a Hawk defender in the box to keep the match scoreless.
The Penmen scored in the 15th minute when Fuentes collected the ball in the attacking zone, dribbling through the left side of the Hawks' defense, launching a right-footed shot past Hood from just a few feet in front of the goalie box.
Hood made his first save of the match to keep Saint Anselm within one on another close attempt from a Penmen that Hood fell on top of in the 26th minute.
Hood had another diving save in the 30th minute while the Hawks' offense couldn't break through the SNHU defense, as the score remained 1-0 at the break.
On a pair of decent scoring chances for the Hawks, freshman
Parker Bienvenue-Cernuda had a free kick blocked while classmate
Zachary Mantegari took a shot from just inside the box that sailed high over the net in the 58th and 59th minutes.
Sophomore
Chance Prouty made a nice move past a handful of Penmen defenders in the 64th minute, making way for a shot from the penalty arc that missed the mark, going up and over the goal.
Aside from a SNHU shot that missed wide left by a few feet in the 88th minute, neither team could muster any scoring chances for the remainder of the game as the Penmen secured the 1-0 victory.
