Volleyball Drops NE10 Matchup at Saint Michael’s

COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Anselm College women's volleyball team dropped a Northeast 10 (NE10) Conference contest against Saint Michael's, 3-1, at the Ross Sports Center on Tuesday.

Highlights
  • Saint Anselm falls to 27-17 all-time against Saint Michael's, marking the second straight loss to the Purple Knights in Vermont, despite an eight-match win streak for the Hawks in Manchester.
  • Sophomore Taylor Lacerda recorded a team-high 10 points on nine kills and a pair of block assists, while tallying 11 digs and an assist.
  • Freshman Mckenna O'Connell had a 31-assist match with three kills, eight digs, three block assists, and a service ace for 5.5 points.
  • Freshman Peyton Elward played well against the net for the Hawks with six total blocks, five assists and one solo to go with five kills for 8.5 points.
  • Junior Sam Pila helped out with eight points on eight kills with seven digs.
  • Junior Madeline Burke led the Hawks with 21 digs and also had three assists and two aces, while senior Skylar Ryan notched 13 digs with a team-high three service aces.
How it Happened
 
SET 1 | The Hawks fell behind 6-1 early in the opening set, but after cutting the deficit to just three, 11-8, Saint Anselm went on a 9-0 run with four kills from Lacerda and two from junior Sam Pila during the scoring spree. The Hawks led by at least two for the rest of the frame, closing out the set, 25-21, after a pair of errors by the Purple Knights
 
SET 2 | Saint Michael's took another early lead, 4-1, and built a five-point lead, 9-4, before the Hawks responded with nine of the next 10 points to take a 13-10 advantage. The set remained close the rest of the way with five more lead changes and eight ties, but Saint Michael's won the set 25-22, stringing together three straight scores on errors by the Hawks.
 
SET 3 | An early 5-0 run put the Hawks in front, 8-5, and three attacking errors plus kills from O'Connell and freshman Etta Rocco increased the Saint Anselm lead to six, 14-8. With the Hawks clinging to a three-point lead, 17-14, the Purple Knights erupted for eight straight points, building an insurmountable 22-17 edge before winning the set, 25-19.
 
SET 4 | Saint Anselm fell behind, 6-1, in the early stages of the fourth set, but responded quickly, cutting the deficit to one, 10-9. Four straight scores on three kills by the Purple Knights put them up by five, and Saint Michael's led the rest of the way, winning the fourth and final set, 25-17.
