PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Saint Anselm College women's volleyball team took down Chestnut Hill College, 3-1, at Gallagher Gymnasium on the campus of Jefferson University in a non-conference match Friday night.

Saint Anselm 3, Chestnut Hill 1 (25-18, 25-13, 24-26, 25-8)

Highlights

  • Saint Anselm improves to 1-1 all-time against Chestnut Hill, as this was the second meeting between the two programs, both in Philadelphia, and the first matchup since the two teams met in 2014.

SET 1 | Chestnut Hill took a 6-4 lead in the early stages of the set, but a big run in the middle of the frame, led by multiple errors from the Griffins and a pair of kills by freshman Peyton Elward, gave Saint Anselm a 21-13 edge. The Griffins attempted to rally, but the set ended with a pair of attack errors as the Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the match, 25-18.

SET 2 | Trailing 4-3, the Hawks went on a 9-0 run with a pair of kills by Lacerda and Kocak in that span. Saint Anselm used a block by sophomore Hannah Storm and junior Melis Kocak following a kill by junior Hollyn Frano to make it 14-9 midway through the frame. A three-point swing, highlighted by a kill from sophomore Peyton Ofori and an ace from junior Sam Pila, made it a 20-11 score in favor of the guests. The Hawks finished the set with a kill by Lacerda to take a 2-0 match lead.

SET 3 | In a set with 16 tie scores, the Griffins came out on top to cut their match deficit to one set. Chestnut Hill registered a match-high 12 kills, as well as four aces, in the frame. Tied 24-24, Chestnut Hill used a kill and an ace from Kate Hanley to escape with the narrow victory.

SET 4 | Saint Anselm dominated the fourth set thanks to a service run by junior Madeline Burke that inspired a 13-0 run for the Hawks. Leading 20-8, the Hawks scored five straight points, with three consecutive Elward kills in that span, to seal the four-set win.
