Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Saint Anselm College softball team split results on the first day of The Spring Games after picking up a shutout win against Upper Iowa University, 4-0, and then falling 6-0 to Minnesota (Duluth) on Friday.

- Saint Anselm continues play at The Spring Games for a another two-game clash on Saturday, March 9. The Hawks face Wayne State College in the first matchup at 1:45 p.m. followed by Caldwell University with a 4:00 p.m. start time.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senior Haile Hicks (Jefferson, N.H.), making her fourth start on the rubber for Saint Anselm, struck out six of the first 10 batters to open game one against Upper Iowa. In the top of the fourth inning, Serah Shafer singled to right field for the Peacocks for first hit of the game. Shortly after, Shafer attempted to steal second but junior catcher Alyssa Wironen (Leominster, Mass.) picked her off with a dart to second base.
- Hicks registered another two punch outs to end the top of the fourth and keep Upper Iowa off the scoreboard. Saint Anselm's bats came alive in the bottom of the fifth inning kickstarted by an RBI single from sophomore Lily Mason (Derry, N.H.) scoring Wironen home to put the Hawks up 1-0.
- Junior Ava Caputo (Waterford, N.Y.) followed up with a single to left field to put runners on first and second base with two outs. Junior Stephanie Tardugno (Methuen, Mass.) cashed in with a two-RBI double to score Caputo and Mason and extend the Hawks lead to 3-0.
- Sophomore Rose Reitmeyer (Oxford, Conn.) tacked on another run with an RBI single, scoring Tardugno to put Saint Anselm up 4-0 at the end of the fourth. The Hawks secured their win after giving up zero hits in the final two innings of the game to defeat the Peacocks by a final score of 4-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Saint Anselm produced four runs off five hits in the game while Upper Iowa only recorded two hits.
- Tardugno led the team with 2 RBI's after going 1-for-3 from the plate including a the only double for the Hawks. Mason and Reitmeyer also earned an RBI each in the win after both going 1-for-3 on the day.
- Hicks earned her second win of the season after pitching all seven innings. She allowed zero runs and gave up just two hits in game one, striking out a season-high eight batters.
- Vetter picked up the loss after throwing six innings for the Peacocks allowing four earned runs off five hits along with a pair of strikeouts.
- The win is the first shutout victory of the 2024 season for the Hawks. In the last four seasons, Saint Anselm has now recorded 41 shutout wins out of their 89 total victories since the 2021 campaign.
- This marked just the third-ever meeting between Saint Anselm and Upper Iowa in program history with their last meeting back in 2006. The Hawks are now 2-1 in the all-time series against the Peacocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Reitmeyer singled to left center to start the Hawks offense in the bottom of the first inning against the Bulldogs, but Saint Anselm would leave one runner on base.
- After a slow start to game two, Minnesota put two runs on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth Morgan McMillan with a 2 RBI home run to make it 2-0 Bulldogs.
- In the top of the fifth inning, Minnesota tacked on two unearned runs to extend their lead to 4-0. Freshman Kendra Lee (Endicott, N.Y. ) checked into the game for Saint Anselm and registered her third punch out of the game in the sixth inning, but the Bulldogs sealed their victory after adding another two runs thanks to a single from Kelly Swank to earn the 6-0 win over Saint Anselm.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Minnesota posted nine hits in the game with four of their six runs being earned. Saint Anselm only registered one hit and recorded four errors in comparison to the Bulldogs with one error.
- Reitmeyer produced the only hit for the Hawks to go 1-for-2 in game two.
- Freshman Sam Ryan (Tewksbury, Mass.) picked up the loss after throwing for four innings allowing two earned runs off five hits. Lee checked into the game pitching the final three innings of the game and allowed two runs off four hits along. with three strikeouts.
