Women's Bowling Grabs Three Victories at Sacred Heart Bowl for the Cure

EAST HAVEN, Conn. – The Saint Anselm College women's bowling team earned three more wins over the weekend at the Sacred Heart University Bowl for the Cure event in East Haven, Conn. The Hawks are now up to 15 victories this season with seven tournaments still remaining.

On Saturday, Saint Anselm bowled four traditional matches and split the results. The Hawks took down Long Island, 926-813, before defeating East Coast Conference (ECC) preseason favorite Bryant, 940-927. The Hawks suffered losses to Sacred Heart and Merrimack on the day. On Sunday, Saint Anselm competed in five baker matches where they picked up another win over Long Island, 859-804.

Leading the way for Saint Anselm in traditional play was freshman Katy McNemar (Chambersburg, Pa.). She bowled a 974 score across five games for a 194.8 average, which was seventh best in a field of 42 bowlers. Freshman Kenzie Davis (Barrington, N.H.) and sophomore Callie Goulet (Bellingham, Mass.) also had strong performances for the Hawks and finished in 10th and 11th places, respectively. Davis tossed a 915 score across five games (183.0 average), while Goulet rolled an 895 score across five games (179.0 average).

Also competing for Saint Anselm at the event were senior Madison Gentes (Bedford, N.H.) and freshman Danika Iosty (Vancouver, Wash.). Gentes ended her day on Saturday after knocking down 873 pins (174.60 average), good for 13th place. Iosty knocked down 843 pins (168.6 average), good for 15th place.

"We are a budding team that is on the ascent," said head coach Tim Frye '11. "We accomplished a goal of elevating our play from the first three events, but fell short in a few areas that still need improvement. We have to find another gear when fatigue starts to creep in to be able to finish tournaments strongly and have completeness to our performances."
