On the opening day of competition last Friday, the Hawks picked up two wins in baker play. The team started the event with a loss to Fairleigh Dickinson, but bounced back with consecutive wins over Holy Family and Niagara before wrapping up the day with a defeat to familiar foe Sacred Heart.
In the win over Niagara, Saint Anselm knocked down 1,003 pins as a team. It was the first time hitting 1,000 in program history. The team also set a new program-best with 4,784 pins knocked down during Friday's baker matches for an average score of 191.3 per game.

The team finished the event with best-of-seven baker matches on Sunday. Saint Anselm started the day with a 4-1 win over Domincan (N.Y.), but suffered back-to-back defeats against Merrimack and Dominican (N.Y.) to conclude the tournament.
Throughout baker play, the Hawks were led once again by McNemar, who bowled in the leadoff and anchor positions. In the leadoff spot, the freshman filled 80 percent of her attempts and earned strikes 70 percent of the time. McNemar had a strong performance in the anchor position as well, filling 83.9 percent of the 10th frames with a 38 percent strike rate.
In baker matches, Goulet also contributed in a big way for Saint Anselm. The sophomore recorded a 19.98 frame average and a 45.1 percent strike rate while doubling 40.7 percent of the time. She bowled in leadoff, set-up, and anchor positions during baker play and thrived in all positions, posting an 80 percent fill rate in the 10th frame, a 75 percent fill rate in the leadoff position, and a 50 percent fill rate in the set-up spot.
"Our team showed great adaptability, mental toughness, and discipline as we left campus very early in the morning to catch a flight from Boston just to participate in this event," said head coach
Tim Frye '11. "It was not easy to be off schedule and still perform, but our team knew that leaving Friday morning was the situation and we responded well."
"We know there are areas we need to continue to improve," added Frye. "This young group has shown exponential growth throughout this season and has begun to cement a culture we are proud to be part of and welcome new teammates into. We are moving in the right direction at the right time of the year."
