KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On Tuesday, the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team made program history after earning a national ranking for the second time by the United Soccer Coaches Association. The Hawks broke through the top-25 in the NCAA Division II women's soccer national poll for the second time since 1998.
The Hawks join The College of Saint Rose and Adelphi University as the only three Northeast-10 Conference (NE10) institutions represented in the national ranking this week. Saint Rose sits in the No. 2 spot of the national poll for the second week in a row while Adelphi is ranked 16th in the country. Both Saint Anselm and Adelphi were previously unranked nationally heading into the fourth week of the season.
Additionally, Saint Anselm jumped up three spots in the East Region poll checking in third place. The Hawks earned their highest regional ranking so far this year after being ranked sixth last week by the United Soccer Coaches Association. Saint Anselm edged out Franklin Pierce University and Southern New Hampshire University in fifth and seventh, respectively.
Saint Anselm picked up a huge win last week against Franklin Pierce, who was ranked No. 20 nationally at the time, at Melucci Field by a final score of 1-0. Freshman
Maggie Warner (Saugus, Mass.), who was tabbed NE10 Rookie of the Week for a second time, produced four big saves while junior
Josie Pecor (Williston, Vt.) notched the game-winner in the 79th minute to secure the upset over the Ravens.
The Hawks travel to Saint Michael's College on Wednesday, Sept. 26th for their next conference tilt with the game slated to begin at 6:00 p.m.
