PREVIEW: Softball makes home debut against Le Moyne, Saint Rose

MANCHESTER, N.H – The Saint Anselm College softball team makes its home opener with a pair of Northeast-10 Conference doubleheaders on Monday, Apr. 3 and Tuesday, Apr. 4.

The Hawks are scheduled to host Le Moyne College on Monday, starting at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. while Tuesday's twinbill is slated for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. starts against The College of Saint Rose. All four games scheduled to be played at the South Athletic Fields.

The Hawks moved to 11-9 on the season and 1-3 in NE10 play following a pair of losses to Pace University on Mar. 26. Saint Anselm posted a 2-4 record on its spring break trip as the Hawks recorded a comeback win over Saint Thomas Aquinas on Mar. 22 and collected a 3-2 win in 10 innings over nationally-ranked Adelphi on Mar. 24. Following the home opening doubleheaders, Saint Anselm will meet crosstown rival Southern New Hampshire in an NE10 twinbill on Saturday, Apr. 8.

The Dolphins dropped both games in their NE10 opening doubleheader to Bentley University by 5-4 and 8-5 scores. Le Moyne is now 11-12 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The team will continue its trip to the Granite State on Tuesday, Apr. 4 when the Dolphins battle Southern New Hampshire in a conference doubleheader.

The Golden Knights were also swept by Bentley in their NE10 opening twinbill, falling by 8-0 and 2-0 scores on Mar. 26. Saint Rose enters its trip to the Queen City with a 5-12 overall record and a 0-2 mark against NE10 foes. Saint Rose will battle the Penmen on Monday, Apr. 3 before playing the Hawks the following day.

HAWKS NOTES
  • The first game in Tuesday's doubleheader against Saint Rose will the 1,500th game in the softball program's history. Entering play on Monday, the Hawks are 776-717-4 all-time in softball.
  • Junior Gracie O'Hara (Shrewsbury, Mass.) who played in her 100th and 101st games in a Hawks uniform against Pace, needs just one hit to reach the 100-career hits mark.
  • O'Hara currently leads the Hawks with a .373 batting average. The junior also leads the team with 22 hits, 12 runs scored, three home runs, and 17 runs batted in.
  • Senior Kylie Fitzpatrick (Danville, N.H.), sophomore Ava Caputo (Waterford, N.Y.), senior Kate Irwin (Milford, Mass.), and sophomore Alyssa Wironen (Leominster, Mass.) all have batting averages north of .300 this season.
  • Caputo ranks second on the squad in both hits (21) and runs batted in (13) while Wironen is second in home runs (2) and third in RBIs (10).
  • Junior Haile Hicks (Jefferson, N.H.) was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Player & Pitcher of the Year Watchlist on Thursday. The junior is 8-2 from the pitching circle this season with a 1.10 earned-run average in 70.0 innings pitched. Hicks has fanned 80 batters and has been credited with 10 complete games and three shutouts.
  • In program history, Hicks ranks first in opponent batting average (.187) and second in earned-run average (1.62).
  • The Hawks defense is operating at .953 this season, committing 26 errors in 557 chances this season.
SCOUTING LE MOYNE
  • Frankie Larobardiere leads the Dolphins offense with a .390 batting average. Larobardiere leads the team with five home runs and is tied for second on the team with 15 runs batted in.
  • Isabelle Boudreau is the team leader with 26 hits followed by Audrey Benderski who has 25. Mckenzie Bergdoll and Larobardiere are tied for third with 23 hits apiece.
  • Alyssa Dybacz has scored a team-high 22 runs this season. The five aforementioned student-athletes are all batting over .330 this season.
  • Laura Bennett has started 13 games and made 17 appearances from the pitching circle for the Dolphins this season. She is 7-7 with a 1.76 earned-run average in 87.1 innings pitched. Bennett has fanned 98 batters this season. Julia Panarella has drawn eight starts and owns a 3-3 record.
  • The Le Moyne defense has committed 34 errors in 605 chances, good for a .944 fielding percentage through 23 games.
SCOUTING SAINT ROSE
  • Madison Chandler ranks third in the NE10 with a .468 batting average this season. Chandler leads the Golden Knights in hits (22), doubles (4), and runs batted in (7). She also accounts for the team's lone triple of the season so far.
  • Alexandra Deeter and Ciana Phillips are second and third on the team with .306 and .295 batting averages respectfully.
  • Deeter leads the squad with nine runs scored this season while Phillips is second on the team in hits with 13.
  • Hannah Breen and Isabella Milazzo have started seven and six games each for the Golden Knights from the pitching circle. Breen has pitched a team-high 35.2 innings and has fanned 28 batters while Milazzo owns a team-best 2.43 earned-run average in 33.1 innings pitched.
  • Saint Rose defensively is operating at .959, committing just 19 errors in 459 chances.
ALL-TIME vs. LE MOYNE, SAINT ROSE
  • The Hawks and Dolphins have battled 42 times in the all-time series. Le Moyne enjoys a 30-12 record against Saint Anselm in softball.
  • Saint Anselm won both games in the 2022 season by 4-1 and 5-2 scores on Apr. 2, 2022. That extended the Hawks current winning streak against the Dolphins to three games with the doubleheader sweep.
  • The Hawks and Golden Knights will be meeting for the 32nd and 33rd times in softball on Tuesday. Saint Anselm is 21-10 against Saint Rose all-time.
  • Saint Anselm swept the 2022 doubleheader on Apr. 5 as the Hawks took both games by 4-2 scores from Albany, N.Y.
