PREVIEW: Softball set for three NE10 twinbills in five day stretch

UPDATE: The Saint Anselm College doubleheader at Assumption University at been moved to Tuesday, Apr. 25 due to impending inclement weather.
 

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College softball team returns to the South Athletic Fields to host in-state foe Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday, Apr. 19 before heading to American International College and Assumption University on Saturday, Apr. 22 and Sunday, Apr. 23.

The Hawks were last in action on Apr. 14 and suffered a 3-2 loss before playing to a 7-7 tie against Bentley University. With the results, Saint Anselm moves to 18-11-1 on the season and 8-5-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Following the trip to Worcester, Mass., Saint Anselm will host the University of New Haven and Southern Connecticut State University on Friday, Apr. 28 and Saturday, Apr. 29 to conclude the 2023 regular season.

The Ravens dropped both games of its NE10 doubleheader to Adelphi University by 2-1 and 6-3 scores on Apr. 16 which puts the team at 25-14 overall and 9-5 in conference contests. After making the midweek trip to the Queen City, Franklin Pierce with head to the College of Saint Rose and Le Moyne College on Saturday, Apr. 22 and Sunday, Apr. 23.

The Yellow Jackets split their conference doubleheader on Apr. 16 with Saint Rose, falling by a 6-0 score before claiming an 8-0 win in five innings. The split moved American International to 5-31 on the season and to 2-14 in conference games. The team will host Southern New Hampshire University on Sunday, Apr. 23 after hosting the Hawks.

The Greyhounds enter the week with a 15-13 overall record and a 7-7 mark in NE10 play. Assumption split a twinbill with Saint Rose on Apr. 15, winning game one by a 4-0 score before falling in game two, 3-2. The team heads to Bentley on Wednesday, Apr. 19 and will host Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, Apr. 22 before hosting Saint Anselm.

HAWKS NOTES
  • Junior Gracie O'Hara (Shrewsbury, Mass.) leads the Hawks offense with a .402 batting average this season. O'Hara ranks second on the squad with 37 hits through 30 games played this season.
  • O'Hara has been credited with two doubles, three home runs, and 26 runs batted in while scoring 24, all of which lead the Hawks.
  • Senior Kylie Fitzpatrick (Danville, N.H.) is second on the team with a .398 batting average. Fitzpatrick has 33 hits which is third most on the roster.
  • Sophomore Ava Caputo (Waterford, N.Y.) leads Saint Anselm with 38 hits this season. Caputo is batting .376 which is third on the team while ranking second with 24 runs batted in.
  • Senior Kate Irwin (Milford, Mass.) and sophomore Sam Wiberg (Exeter, N.H.) are batting .333 and .306 respectively this season.
  • Irwin is the Hawks top base stealer and is 13-of-14 this season. Irwin ranks fifth all-time in program history in stolen bases with 36.
  • Junior Haile Hicks (Jefferson, N.H.) surpassed the 300 career strikeouts mark against Bentley. On the season, Hicks owns a 1.16 earned-run average in 18 appearances, 15 of which have been starts. Hicks owns a 12-4 record with one save and 15 complete game efforts, totaling 103.0 innings pitched. The junior has fanned 134 batters this season.
  • Sophomore Sophia DiPippo (Cranston, R.I.) has made 14 starts for Saint Anselm from the pitching circle. DiPippo is 4-5 in 61.2 innings pitched with a 3.18 ERA.
  • The Hawks defense ranks fifth in the NE10 with a 0.958 fielding percentage, committing 34 errors in 812 chances.
SCOUTING FRANKLIN PIERCE
  • Ashley Cangiano leads the Ravens offense with 49 hits this season. She has 12 doubles, five triples, and six home runs with 37 runs batted in in 39 games played.
  • Cangiano is batting .438 this season, which leads Franklin Pierce while Melissa Konopinski and Bella Williams are second and third at .386 and .385 respectively.
  • Both Williams and Konopinski have over 40 hits each. Haley Bigwood leads Franklin Pierce with seven home runs and 42 RBIs this season.
  • Sabrina Gonzalez and Abby Poirot have drawn 11 starts each from the pitching circle for the Ravens. Gonzalez leads the team with 82.0 innings pitched and with 46 strikeouts. Poirot has a team-best 3.10 ERA in 67.2 innings pitched.
  • The Ravens rank eighth in the conference with a 0.951 fielding percentage. The team has committed 53 errors in 1,089 chances.
SCOUTING AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
  • Mackenzie Berman has been credited with an American International high of 31 hits this season. Berman is tied with Victoria Andrade for a team-high with 16 runs batted in.
  • Andrade and Abigail Wells are tied for second on the squad with 29 hits.
  • Brianna Harzula is the Yellow Jackets leader with a .311 batting average while Berman is second at .304.
  • Riley Sullivan and Alexis Jimenez have started 12 games and 11 games each for the Yellow Jackets this season. Jimenez leads the team with 80.2 innings pitched while Sullivan is second with 70.1. Jimenez owns a 4.34 earned-run average while Sullivan sits at 6.77.
  • The Yellow Jackets defense has committed 63 errors in 1,012 chances, good for a 0.938 fielding percentage.
SCOUTING ASSUMPTION
  • Jordan Dwyer holds the Greyhounds lead with 27 hits while Corin Mahan, Summer Sheerin, and Kaitlyn Cahill all have 25.
  • Mahan leads the team with a .368 batting average with Sheerin and Cahill following at .338 each.
  • Mackenzie Bruggeman has slugged three of the four Greyhounds home runs this season.
  • Cahill leads the team with 15 runs batted in while six other Assumption student-athletes have posted double-digit RBIs.
  • Kaelin Waldron has made a team-high 13 starts in the pitching circle. Waldron has a 2.19 ERA in 86.1 innings pitched. Anna Tassone has matched Waldron's appearances at 18 and owns a 2.20 ERA in 51.0 innings of work.
  • The Greyhounds rank seventh in the conference with a 0.956 fielding percentage. The team has had 802 chances with 35 errors issued against them.
ALL-TIME vs. FRANKLIN PIERCE, AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL, ASSUMPTION
  • The Hawks and Ravens have met 86 times in the all-time series. Saint Anselm enjoys a 68-18 record against Franklin Pierce in softball.
