CANDIA, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's golf team closed the Hawks Invitational with a fifth-place finish on Tuesday.
On day two, the Hawks totaled 307 strokes to total 607 for the two-day tournament from the Candia Woods Golf Course. Saint Anselm also had a "B" team in action at the invitational which placed eighth after turning in a 316 on day two, posting a total of 628 strokes.
Franklin Pierce University carded a 293, the lowest round of the tournament on Tuesday, to push them to a total of 590 which gave them the tournament win. Post University and Dominican University (N.Y.) placed second and third at 603 and 604 while Assumption University sat in fourth at 605.
Peter Wurszt matched the lowest round of the day on Tuesday at a one-over 72 and when paired with his two-over 73 from day one, put him in first on the individual leaderboard with a total of 145 strokes.
The Hawks Invitational was the last scheduled event for the men's golf team for the 2022-23 regular season. Saint Anselm will await the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Draw Show to learn of its postseason fate.
Senior
Lucas Dascoli (Everett, Mass.) and sophomore
Michael Papamechail (Danvers, Mass.) led the Hawks on day two, carding five-over 76's on the day.
Dascoli carded three birdies and seven pars on his second round while Papamechail turned in a team-high four birdies and added seven pars on his round.
Both student-athletes turned in round one scores of 77, bringing their total to 153 for the tournament which was good for a tie for 17th.
Freshman
Anthony Picano (Reading, Mass.) carded a six-over 77 on Tuesday, adding to his 74 from Monday. The freshman was tied for ninth on the individual leaderboard with 151 strokes.
Picano managed to turn in 10 pars and one birdie on round. The 10 pars were tied for second most of all the Saint Anselm student-athletes in the tournament on Tuesday.
Senior
Drew Semons (Danvers, Mass.) joined Picano with 10 pars on the day as Semons carded a seven-over 78 on Tuesday.
Semons paired his round two score with a 75 from Monday to join Dascoli and Papamechail in a tie for 17th at a total of 153 shots.
Junior
Robbie Forti (Danvers, Mass.) rounded out the top Hawks roster with an 82 on day two. The junior posted eight pars on his round.
Forti totaled 156 strokes across the two-day event which put him in a tie for 29th for the tournament.
Freshman
Chris O'Grady (Middleton, Mass.) carded a Saint Anselm high 14 pars on Tuesday, aiding him to a collegiate best 75.
O'Grady joined the trio of student-athletes mentioned above at 153 total strokes, putting him in a tie for 17th.
Junior
Trevor Janis (Burlington, Mass.) turned in an eight-over 79 on Tuesday which was second best on the "B" roster behind O'Grady.
Janis carded 10 pars and one birdie on his second round which aided him to a tie for 31st on the leaderboard at 157 total strokes.
Freshman
Finnegan Sharpe (Durham, Maine) matched his collegiate best round with an 80 on Tuesday. Sharpe posted nine pars on his round.
Sharpe totaled 163 strokes for the Hawks Invitational which put him in a tie for 43rd.
Freshman
Connor Powers (Braintree, Mass.) turned in an 82 in round two with nine pars on his scorecard.
Powers joined Janis in a tie for 31st on the leaderboard with 157 total shots.
Freshman
Peter Torres (North Dighton, Mass.) rounded out the "B" roster on Tuesday with an 87. Torres turned in six pars on his round.
The freshman was 51st on the individual leaderboard with 168 shots.
Senior
Jack Mang (Medfield, Mass.) and sophomore
Christopher Sullivan (Pembroke, Mass.) competed as individuals in the tournament.
Mang added an 84 on Tuesday to an 81 from Monday to total 165 strokes which was good for 49th on the leaderboard while Sullivan posted an 88 to go with an 82 from round one for a total of 170, putting him in 53rd.
