Men's golf sits in third after day one of the Hawks Invitational

CANDIA, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's golf team battled through difficult conditions on day one of the Hawks Invitational as the team sits in third out of 10 teams after 18 holes of action.

The Hawks totaled 300 strokes in the opening round from the Candia Woods Golf Course, sitting just six shots behind the day one leader Dominican (N.Y.) University. Franklin Pierce University sits in second after posting a 297 on Monday. Bentley University posted a team score of 301, good for fourth, while Assumption University and Post University are in a tie for fifth at 302.

Saint Anselm also put out a "B" team in the event and that squad is seventh after day one after combining for a team score of 312.

Alejandro Gomez from Dominican turned in a one-under 70 on day one, which marked the top score of the day. Alexander Lundvall sits in second, just one shot back of his teammate while three student-athletes are tied for third at one-over.

The programs conclude play in the Hawks Invitational on Tuesday, Apr. 18 with the second round of the event. The first tee time on Tuesday is scheduled for 8 a.m.

Junior Robbie Forti (Danvers, Mass.) and freshman Anthony Picano (Reading, Mass.) led the Hawks on day one as both student-athletes turned in three-over 74's, good for a tie for eighth on the individual leaderboard.

Forti carded a team-high four birdies and seven pars on the day. The junior finished the front nine at four-over before posting a one-under back nine to finish at three-over.

Picano totaled 13 pars and one birdie in his round, aiding him to the three-over 74.

Senior Drew Semons (Danvers, Mass.) turned in a four-over 75 to sit in a tie for 14th. The senior posted two birdies and 11 pars on his round.

Senior Lucas Dascoli (Everett, Mass.) and sophomore Michael Papamechail (Danvers, Mass.) posted rounds at six-over, totaling 77 strokes on their rounds respectively.

Dascoli posted two birdies and nine pars on his round while Papamechail turned in 10 pars and one birdie on his round.

The Saint Anselm "B" team was led by freshman Connor Powers (Braintree, Mass.) who sits in a tie for 14th after posting a four-over 75, which is the best round of his collegiate career.

Freshman Chris O'Grady (Middleton, Mass.) and junior Trevor Janis (Burlington, Mass.) are tied for 28th on the individual leaderboard after carding seven-over 78's.

Freshman Peter Torres (North Dighton, Mass.) turned in an 81 which put him in a tie for 39th while freshman Finnegan Sharpe (Durham, Maine) rounded out the second team student-athletes with an 83, good for a tie for 47th.

Senior Jack Mang (Medfield, Mass.) and sophomore Christopher Sullivan (Pembroke, Mass.) turned in rounds of 81 and 82 respectively, competing as individuals in the event.
