Saint Anselm is coming off a hard-fought 63-61 victory over Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday. The Hawks will face the Falcons on Wednesday before heading to Adelphi on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 1:30 p.m.
Bentley has lost two games in a row, but has racked up 12 victories in its 18 games played to date. The Falcons won the 2022 NE10 Championship but fell in the First Round of the NCAA East Region Championship to Jefferson, 50-47.
Adelphi, who hosts New Haven on Tuesday, has recorded an 8-9 overall record entering the week. The Panthers recently secured a 65-56 victory over Saint Michael's in Vermont on Saturday, snapping a streak of five losses in six games.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- Saint Anselm scored 12 consecutive points late in the fourth quarter, capturing a 63-61 victory over visiting Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday. The Hawks had previously lost to SCSU the season prior by a 105-69 margin.
- Junior Gabby Turco (Wildwood, N.J.) went 11-for-11 from the free throw line in the victory over the Owls, becoming one of just two student-athletes (Peyton Steinman '22) since at least the 2001-02 season to accomplish that.
- Turco, who finished with 20 points in the winning effort and ranks fifth in the NE10 in points per game (16.7), is also the lone East Region student-athlete this season with a perfect single-game percentage with at least 11 attempts and one of just 15 nationally to make that claim.
- Saint Anselm leads the NE10 in free throw percentage (76.9%) and ranks 23rd in NCAA Division II in that metric. Turco, who ranks sixth in the NE10 in minutes played per game (34.52), is shooting 90.6% from the charity stripe (96-for-106).
- The Hawks rank fifth in the NE10, committing just 14.3 turnovers per game. The team also allows just a 28.5% three-point field goal percentage to the opposition, the fifth-best rate in the conference.
- In his fifth season as the Head Coach of Saint Anselm, Corey Boilard has won 83 games in his Saint Anselm career and is just one win shy of matching his total of 84 set across five seasons at Johnson & Wales (R.I.) from 2012-17. In total, he has compiled 167 victories and a 61.4% winning percentage.
SCOUTING BENTLEY
- The Falcons carry a two-game losing streak into play on Wednesday, posting losses at home against New Haven on Wednesday, Jan. 18 before recording a 53-38 defeat at Le Moyne on Saturday, Jan. 21. The defeats knocked Bentley out of what was a tie for first atop the NE10 standings.
- Against the Dolphins, Bentley shot a season-low 24.6% from the floor and made just five of their season-high 26 three-point field goal attempts. The team was also just three-for-eight (37.5%) from the line as the third quarter featured just two points by Bentley.
- Bentley ranks second in NCAA Division II in three-point percentage defense (23.4%) and checks in with the nation's sixth-finest defense, conceding just 53.3 points per game this season. The team also leads the NE10 in three-point field goal percentage (35.6%).
- Kari Brekke leads the NE10 with a 42.0% three-point field goal percentage and has poured home 37 triples, the second-most of any league student-athlete. Her 2.06 three-point baskets per game is fourth in the conference.
- Maggie Whitmore leads the way with 11.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for the Falcons. She has reached double-digit point totals in all but one of her last 10 games played.
SCOUTING ADELPHI
- Adelphi, who plays at home against New Haven on Tuesday, has lost five of its last seven games. The team recently logged a nine-point road game at Saint Michael's just three days after narrowly losing to nationally-ranked Assumption, 57-52.
- Saint Michael's put a scare into the Panthers late in the fourth quarter, shrinking the Adelphi lead to just three points with 6:10 left. Adelphi stood tall, scoring eight free throws in the game's final two minutes to pull away late.
- The Panthers lead the NE10 with seven made three pointers per game. The team also ranks third in the league with a 35.0% three-point field goal percentage, but ranks dead last in the conference with 63.0 points per game allowed.
- Ty'zhea Hawkins is leading the NE10 with 18.6 points per game and Maura Carney has logged the league's leading assist-to-turnover ratio (4.0). Hawkins has also cashed in at the charity stripe, making 80.3% of her free throws this season.
ALL-TIME vs. BENTLEY, ADELPHI
- The Hawks and Falcons are meeting for the 96th time in the all-time series. Bentley enjoys an 80-15 record against Saint Anselm in women's basketball.
- Saint Anselm and Adelphi will be battling for the 16th time in the series on Saturday. The Hawks are 10-5 against the Panthers.
- Earlier this season, nationally-ranked Bentley downed Saint Anselm, 72-52. Senior McKenzy Ouellette (West Newfield, Maine) led Saint Anselm with 10 points as the Hawks shot just over 30% for the game (17-for-55).
- In that contest, Bentley limited the Hawks to just a 24.2% field goal percentage in the opening half and took full advantage of 51.9% shooting (14-for-27) in that span to build a sizeable lead.
- Saint Anselm was saddled with a 70-65 loss by Adelphi earlier this season in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium. The Panthers overcame a double-digit deficit to secure the victory, despite a career-high 28 points by Turco.
