Men's golf closes the Penmen Invite in eighth

CONCORD, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's golf team finished the Penmen Fall Invitational in eighth out of 15 teams.

The Hawks turned in a team score 314 on Tuesday which brings their 36-hole total to 619. Southern New Hampshire University turned in the lowest team round of the event at 286 on day two to overcome an eight-shot deficit and to grab the win. Assumption University posted a 587 for both days to finish four shots off the lead while Le Moyne College finished third at 596.

Patrick McCarthy from Merrimack College turned in a four-under 140 to finish atop the leaderbaord. Alex Korkuc from Southern New Hampshire finished as the leader for those competing as individuals in the tournament, carding a 148 between both rounds.

Saint Anselm will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 2 and Monday, Oct. 3 from the En-Joie Golf Course in Endicott, N.Y. for the Northeast-10 Conference Championship.

Junior Robbie Forti (Danvers, Mass.) led the Hawks on day two as he turned in a four-over 76. The junior posted a 76 in round one to finish at a total of eight-over, good for a tie for 25th.

Senior Drew Semons (Danvers, Mass.) finished the day at 77 and when paired with his 75 from round one puts him at eight-over, finishing in a tie for 25th and with Forti.

Semons and Forti were tied for the Hawks lead with 24 pars between the two rounds, good for a tie for seventh compared to the field.

Freshman Connor Powers (Braintree, Mass.) improved upon his round one score by six shots at 78, marking the greatest improvement between the two rounds by any Saint Anselm student-athlete. He finished his first collegiate tournament at 162, good for a tie for 62nd.

Sophomore Michael Papamechail (Danvers, Mass.) carded a nine-over 83 on Tuesday which brings his two-round total to 160, finishing in a tie for 54th.

Senior Lucas Dascoli (Everett, Mass.) rounded out the Saint Anselm team competitors with an 85 on day two. He fired 162 shots between the rounds to sit in a tie for 62nd on the leaderboard.

Freshman Finnegan Sharpe (Durham, Maine) competed as an individual in the Penmen Invite. He concluded his first collegiate tournament in a tie for 74th after posting rounds of 80 and 87 between the two days.
