Women's golf finishes seventh at Franklin Pierce Invite

HUDSON, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's golf team closed the Franklin Pierce University Fall Women's Invitational with a seventh-place finish.

The Hawks posted a team score of 351 from the Prairie Course at Green Meadow Golf Club on Monday, improving on their day one score by three strokes. Saint Anselm trailed Le Moyne College by nine shots for the sixth-place spot.

The hosts, Franklin Pierce, won the event at 38-over par. The Ravens turned in a team score of 304 on day two and added that to a 294 from round one to finish at 598 total strokes. Stonehill College (619) finished in second while Adelphi University (644) rounded out the top three.

Franklin Pierce's Phisonlaya Ruayruen finished as the individual winner, closing the 36-hole event at four-over par. She totaled 144 strokes between the two rounds.

Saint Anselm is back in action on Friday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 8 from Guilderland, N.Y. for the Saint Rose Fall Invitational. The 36-hole event will be played at the Pinehaven Country Club and will be the last event for the Hawks before making their debut at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Sunday, Oct. 16 and Monday, Oct. 17.

The Hawks were led on day two by freshman Lydia Tufts (Auburn, N.H.) who turned in a 10-over, 80, which is her collegiate low. Tufts paired her 80 on Monday with an 81 from round one to close the event at 161 strokes, good for a tie for 17th. Tufts posted a pair of birdies on the day which were the only ones carded by the Hawks on the day.

Freshman Alora Assad (East Longmeadow, Mass.) improved upon her day one score by four shots, finishing the invitational at 36-over. Assad's second round closed at a 16-over 86 which was second for Saint Anselm on Monday. She finished in a tie for 35th on the individual leaderboard.

Sophomore Nicole Butkus (North Hampton, N.H.) carded a 17-over 87 to close day two in third for the Hawks. Butkus concluded the event in 33rd as she totaled 173 shots between the two rounds.

Senior Annabelle Smith (Paxton, Mass.) finished round two with a 28-over 98. Smith closed the event in a tie for 47th at 55-over par.

Freshman Abby McGonigle (Braintree, Mass.) rounded out the Hawks competitors at 37-over on day two. McGonigle finished the event in 56th.
