CONCORD, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's golf team closed round one of the Penmen Fall Invitational in eighth out of 15 teams.
The Hawks totaled 303 strokes on the day, finishing at 17-over for the tournament. Le Moyne College closed the opening round at one-over to take an 18-hole lead headed to day two. Assumption University is just one shot back in second place while Southern New Hampshire University is third at nine-over.
Nicholas Bove from Le Moyne leads the individual leaderboard after he turned in a three-under 69 on day one.
The competitors are scheduled to conclude play at Beaver Meadow Golf Club on Tuesday, Sept. 27. The Hawks will be teeing off along side Post University and Franklin Pierce University, starting at 8 a.m. on hole one.
Senior
Drew Semons (Danvers, Mass.) carded a three-over 75 to lead Saint Anselm on the opening day. He is tied for 20th on the individual leaderboard. Now in all five rounds he has played, Semons has shot a 75 or lower this season.
Junior
Robbie Forti (Danvers, Mass.) followed Semons closely as he fired a four-over 76, which puts him in a tie for 27th. Forti's 74 is his top round of the season, through five rounds played. On the day, Forti turned in a team-high 12 pars.
Senior
Lucas Dascoli (Everett, Mass.) and sophomore
Michael Papamechail (Danvers, Mass.) each posted rounds of 77, which put them at five-over and in a tie for 32nd.
Freshman
Connor Powers (Braintree, Mass.) made his collegiate debut on Monday and posted a 12-over 84, which puts him in a tie for 70th. Powers rounded out the five Saint Anselm student-athletes who are participating in the team portion of the invitational.
Freshman
Finnegan Sharpe (Durham, Maine) made his collegiate debut as well on Monday. He posted an eight-over 80 to sit in a tie for 52nd against the field. Compared to the other individuals competing, Sharpe is tied for fourth out of nine student-athletes.
